WhereTo - Senior Node.JS Back End Engineer - Remote, Mexico Join the Flight Centre Travel Group as a Senior Back End Engineer. We are looking for a Back End focused engineer to be a pivotal member of our engineering team. Working closely with product managers and developers, you will help create core features for the WhereTo platform. This role suits a candidate who is inquisitive about new technology, writes maintainable, scalable code, thrives in a fast‑paced remote environment, and collaborates well with teammates. Key Responsibilities Responsible for creating high‑quality, user‑focused software while working in a fast‑moving domain team. Help define, implement, and reinforce architectural and implementation best practices. Assist the Team Lead in facilitating technical planning for the team’s projects. Assist the Team Lead in communicating progress, roadblocks, concerns, and successes to engineering management. May be required to organize and lead meetings with external stakeholders as needed. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and mentor new team members. Assist in onboarding processes and code reviews for the team. Help team members debug issues and solve complex tasks. Live and breathe asynchronous I/O, typed JavaScript, and horizontal scalability. Experience & Qualifications More than 4 years of experience in a software development role. Experience building and architecting high‑quality software from scratch. Strong Node.js and JavaScript skills (ES6, Babel); experience with TypeScript or FlowType is a bonus. Strong understanding of asynchronous I/O. Excellent software architecture skills and a passion for maintainable, organized code. Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, CloudFront/CDNs). Expertise with Linux, Ubuntu/Debian; BASH scripting a plus. Experience with CI platforms (Jenkins, CircleCI, Travis, etc.). Experience with REST‑based Web Service API implementation. Experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL (or similar) and understanding of how they work internally. Experience with algorithms and data structures. Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) is desirable. Experience with memory cache systems (Redis, Memcached). Experience with other systems programming languages (Go, C/C++, Rust) and/or scripting languages (Python) and/or JVM‑based languages (Scala, Java, Groovy) is a bonus. Experience with pure functional programming and/or functional programming libraries and concepts (Haskell, Scala, F#, Ramda, Lo‑Dash FP, etc.) is a bonus. Strong experience designing and implementing highly horizontally‑scalable architecture. Strong understanding of Git fundamentals. Strong understanding of Docker fundamentals.
