Together, we create impact and drive success**About the role**:The Controller owns a portfolio of client accounts and steps into most of the client-facing controller work currently handled by the owner. This role is responsible for accurate, timely accounting; clear financial reporting; and proactive communication with small- and mid-sized business clients.The Controller must be comfortable working remotely, coordinating with a distributed team, and leading conversations with U.S.based business owners.**What you'll do**:- **Primary accounting contact** for assigned clients, providing ongoing **client management and advisory**.- Lead **recurring client calls** (monthly / bi-weekly) to **review financials** and explain results in **clear, non-technical language**.- **Identify key issues** (cash flow, margins, variances, compliance) and **recommend actionable next steps**.- **Own full-cycle accounting and month-end close**, including **reconciliations, revenue recognition, AP/AR review, payroll entries, accruals, and prepaids**.- Prepare **accurate monthly financial statements** (**P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow**) and **management reports**.- Maintain **strong workpapers and documentation** supporting all balances and adjustments.- Work primarily in **QuickBooks Online**, adhering to **firm SOPs** for bookkeeping and close.- **Identify and resolve errors** in client books; lead **cleanup and correction projects**.- Recommend **process improvements and automations** to increase efficiency and consistency.- **Collaborate with bookkeeping teams** (onshore and nearshore) to ensure **timely, high-quality delivery**.- **Review delegated work** and provide **constructive feedback**.- Consistently use and contribute to **firm templates, checklists, and SOPs**.**Qualifications**:- **Bachelor’s degree** in **Accounting** or **Finance**, or **equivalent practical experience**.- **Minimum 5 years of hands-on accounting experience**, with **progressive growth** up to **Senior Accountant role**, including **month-end close ownership**.- **Direct experience preparing monthly financial statements** for **small to mid-sized businesses**.**Skills**:- Strong proficiency with **QuickBooks Online** (multi-entity, classes, projects or similar).- Solid Excel/Google Sheets skills (vlookup/index-match, pivot tables, basic modeling).- Solid understanding of **U.S. GAAP** for small businesses.- Demonstrated ability to clean up messy books (unreconciled accounts, misclassifications, prior-period issues).
