We are searching for the best talent to fill the position of Executive Director, Regional Strategy Leader for Oncology in LATAM.
With the possibility of being based in Bogotá (CO), Buenos Aires (ARG), Mexico City (MX), or São Paulo (BRA).
Role Summary:
The Executive Director, Regional Strategy Leader for Oncology in LATAM is a Senior Medical Leader within Value and Implementation Global Medical & Scientific Affairs and serves as the point of contact for the applicable therapeutic area portfolio, including pipeline related to the therapeutic area in the region.
The post-holder, while supporting the therapeutic area assets, has a strong focus on anticipating pipeline assets and new launches. Additional important activities include assisting the region with data gap analyses, local data generation considerations, Scientific Leader interactions, interfacing global to regional teams, conducting strategic insights reviews, managing regional projects, and addressing Health Technology Assessment related topics.
The Executive Director helps ensure tight vertical alignment of the therapeutic area at headquarters and across geographies, while continuing to provide a critical interface with regional cross-functional colleagues, including Marketing, Market Access, Regulatory Affairs, Communications, Global Clinical Trial Operations, Outcomes Research, Policy, Patient Advocacy, and other teams. The goal is to improve communication of strategy and priorities to meet internal and external expectations. This role also connects Regional Directors of Medical Affairs in an across-tumor alignment function, overseeing strategic priorities for the region and aligning with key countries.
Furthermore, the Executive Director represents the vision of the region on key leadership teams, leveraging a strategic mindset and fostering a bidirectional vision between regional and global leadership teams. This approach aims to accelerate results that will benefit patients, healthcare providers, alliances, and institutions. The role is essential for delivering on our global – regional – local connectivity enterprise priority.
Responsibilities and Primary Activities:
Key Functions
- Aligns, prioritizes and customizes strategy to the region.
- Matrix leadership of country Oncology Therapeutic Area directors to ensure bidirectional communication and implementation of Global therapeutic area strategy.
- Serves as core member of Regional Medical Affairs Leadership Team(s).
- Collaborates with Executive Directors of Medical Affairs, Executive Directors of Scientific Affairs, Global Directors of Medical Affairs and Regional Directors Medical Affairs to help ensure understanding and execution of regional priorities.
- Interacts closely with the Global therapeutic area Team and Product Development Teams around regional priorities.
- Serves as a key stakeholder in Regional Medical Affairs Team and Global Medical Affairs Team meetings and an important point of contact to ensure proper regional and country input and prioritization for Value and Implementation Plans and Country Medical Affairs Plans.
- Works closely with Global Medical Value Capabilities, including Regional Hubs, for delivery of key initiatives.
- Functions as point of contact for regional alliances medical affairs teams for strategic discussions.
- Creates participation, alignment, and open discussions to share best practices across therapeutic areas and region.
- Supports Regional Directors Medical Affairs integration and alignment across the region, therapeutic area and divisions.
Cross-functional Activities
- Participates on Region Cross-Functional Teams, providing a holistic view across the therapeutic area supporting prioritizations and decisions.
- Works with regional Market Access and Policy teams to ensure regional advisory groups and HTA-related needs are considered by the Product Development Teams and the added value of our medicines is fully recognized by regional stakeholders with the aim of securing access for appropriate patients in the region.
- Provides key input to Regulatory Affairs as a part of the cross-functional regional team that drives input to regulatory submissions.
- Partners as needed with clinical development team and Global Clinical Trial Operations in solving complex issues and to ensure strategic alignment.
- Supports data gap analyses and the Road Map to the development of LDGs, working collaboratively with Regional Directors Medical Affairs colleagues and OR.
External Stakeholder Engagement
- Drives and leads Company relationships with key regional professional societies for therapeutic area and facilitates close collaboration with Oncology Co-operative Groups across the region.
- Provides guidance on Advisory Boards and Input Meetings.
- Works with Company Policy/Access on external interactions with governments, payers and other stakeholders.
- Oversees guidelines recommendation and professional societies engagement at a regional level.
- Establish and manage relationships with the top 25-30 key oncology scientific leaders (SLs) across the region.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Minimum:
- M.D., PhD or PharmD and recognized therapeutic area expertise (additional advanced degrees, entry on a Specialist Register such as Pharmaceutical Medicine or a relevant clinical specialty are strong additional considerations).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in global pharmaceutical industry in Clinical Development and/or Medical Affairs with a demonstrated successful track record.
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead by influence.
- Demonstrated effective organizational skills, including ability to set goals and align priorities.
Preferred:
- Previous leadership experience managing a team and being part of Executive Committees.
- Strong knowledge of the local compliance environment in which Medical Affairs functions.
- Strong business acumen, ethics and credible reputation with the external scientific community.
- Demonstrated track record of success in Medical Affairs with industry-leading performance.
- Proven track record of meaningful contributions to an executive leadership team beyond the medical affairs function such as Clinical, Commercial, Outcomes Research.
- Demonstrated creativity and effectiveness in addressing strategic challenges.
- Entrepreneurial mindset; capable of thinking out of the box and taking measured risks.
- Experience working in global and regional medical affairs functions.
- Ability to understand issues across a global affiliate network and contribute relevant insights as appropriate.
- Experience managing a matrix organization.
