Currently there are 2 direct reports and an expected direct report of a summer intern.**J**o**b R**e**s**p**o**ns**i**b**ili**t**i**e**s**:AME Materials Engineering Manager has responsibility for the Americas materials-related testing and projects for the Harman Lifestyle division. This position will also have significant interaction with other global Materials Engineering personnel within Harman’s Lifestyle division. The nature of this role requires the job holder to be a confident self-starter, organized, that enjoys challenging situations and has the persistence to see a task through to conclusion.- Set up test request priorities and liaise with Materials Lab Engineer/Technician to ensure that tests are completed within a timely manner.- Complete test requests using the available laboratory test equipment. These tests will also comply with international test standards and internal laboratory work instructions.- Identify and order external laboratory tests when internal capability does not exist.- Identify and analyze material cost saving opportunities in current or pending products.- Define, promote and lead material related projects, tracking project timing, costs, and results.- Participate in component problem analysis and resolution when requested.- Technical writing of materials specifications, test work instructions and test reports.- ** Basic Qualifications**:- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science or equivalent.- A minimum of five years of related experience and demonstrated accomplishments in materials testing.- A proven track record of successful development implementations.- A thorough understanding of best practice laboratory procedures and the use of laboratory equipment.- A thorough understanding of organic and inorganic materials including adhesives, metal coatings, polymers, plastic injection molding, adhesion to plastic substrates and anodizing knowledge.- Knowledge of proper handling chemicals and materials- Ability to organize, analyze and concisely report technical data.- Demonstrated ability to effectively influence at all organizational levels through clear, concise and impactful verbal and written communication skills- Demonstrated ability to develop a high performing team.- Outstanding presentation skills- Possesses a strong ethical framework, enabling efficient and effective decision making- Must possess the creativity, energy, dependability and organization skills to successfully manage multiple priorities- ** Preferred Qualifications**:- Advanced/Master’s degree- Automotive or electronics industry experience- ** Eligibility Requirements**:- Willingness to travel 10% of the time.- Willingness to work in an office/lab in Novi, MI.- Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
