Mission As part of the Core Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in building the scalable, reliable systems that power our travel platform—from supplier integrations and search to pricing and booking. You’ll craft and deliver backend solutions that drive our mission to simplify business travel and elevate the traveler experience. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across product and data, solving complex technical challenges that directly impact Engine’s growth and customer satisfaction. Whether you’re enhancing API performance, integrating new partners, or scaling core services, you’ll contribute to the foundation that makes Engine fast, dependable, and delightful to use. What You’ll Bring to Engine We’re looking for experienced engineers who thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and love solving challenging problems at scale. Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend software engineering, with a strong foundation in API development, microservices, and distributed systems. Skills: You’re a creative problem-solver who values pragmatic, iterative development. You excel at systems design, enjoy tackling performance optimization, and communicate clearly across technical and non-technical teams. Technical Expertise: You’re comfortable working with modern backend languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Kotlin, TypeScript) and familiar with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. Experience with Kubernetes, gRPC, observability tools, and caching systems like Redis is a plus. Mindset: You take ownership from design through production, thrive in ambiguity, and bring curiosity, collaboration, and accountability to everything you do. While all our engineers share a common mission and mindset, each Core Engineering team has a unique focus within Engine’s ecosystem: Integrations The Integrations team expands Engine’s supplier network and ensures reliable, scalable connections with third-party partners. They focus on building microservice-based integration solutions that enable accurate, efficient data exchange and power Engine’s growing marketplace of travel options. Search The Search team designs and maintains high-performance, low-latency backend services that allow users to find the best travel options quickly and reliably. They focus on scalability, performance tuning, and seamless communication across multiple travel verticals and internal systems. The Pricing team develops and scales high-performance APIs that deliver competitive, real-time pricing across Engine’s travel offerings. They work closely with data science and product teams to integrate advanced pricing models that drive growth and customer value. Booking The Booking team manages Engine’s system of record, ensuring smooth, secure, and accurate transaction flows. They focus on building resilient, scalable systems that enable seamless booking experiences and maintain the integrity of every travel transaction. This is a full-time contractor position for candidates based in Latin America only.
