Software Engineering Manager, Compilers, Runtimes & Toolchains Join Google as a Software Engineering Manager in the Compilers, Runtimes and Toolchains team—an integral part of Google’s architecture that supports high‑performance computing across the company. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript). 3 years of technical leadership and 2 years of people‑management experience. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related field. Experience working in a matrixed organization. Experience with ML models, backend languages such as Go, Rust, or Java. Experience with compilers, runtimes, and toolchains. About the Job The team focuses on LLVM, Google's low‑level virtual machine, ensuring seamless integration and performance across Google’s products. In this role you will lead the Compiler, Runtimes & Toolchains area in partnership with executive cross‑functional leads, manage individual contributors, and shape the roadmap for LLVM optimization and code generation. Responsibilities Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Software Engineers, fostering psychological safety, trust, and high performance. Collaborate with Team Leads and the CRT to create the LLVM roadmap and execute strategic plans. Support career development and growth for team members. Improve the overall efficiency of releases, reducing maintenance costs for the CRT and Software Foundations organizations. Work with cross‑functional teams to enhance LLVM and related technologies, including the production C++ toolchain.
