Sr Tooling Engineer

Sr. Tooling Engineer is responsible to oversee Thermoplastic Injection Tooling Engineering with external custom molders as well as tooling running internally, whether at Tijuana site or with Sister plants.**Duties & Responsibilities**The Sr. Tooling Engineer is responsible of:- Safeguard Smiths Medical Thermoplastic injection tooling assets with vendors as well as internally by maintaining each tooling records up to date.- Maintain tooling assets running properly, supervise vendors and internal providers to ensure tooling is maintained properly and min-max of spare components is established and is properly stocked.- Ensure proper tooling lifecycle is established to create timely replacement programs to prevent sudden tooling breakdowns and supply interruptions.- Ensure clarity on Capacity of every tool with vendors and internal providers to enable proactivity in capacity increase programs and to better manage demand fluctuations.- Responsible to Procure thermoplastic injection molds:- a) Prepare Request For Quote (RFQ) and establish scope of work with vendors- b) Specify tooling requirements with vendors in accordance to production needs, Cavitation, Injection system, ejection systems, steel type, surface finish etc.- c) Supervises tooling fabrication from design approvals to initial trial with Vendors.- d) Executes FAT Run with vendor and drives required adjustments or changes prior to approve.- e) Upon approval of FAT transfer tooling to final location, delivers tooling asset to the appropriate function an ensure it is ready to commence validation.- f) Supervises validation with the appropriate functions and assist as required to ensure successful validation and release to production.- Ensures all injection tooling is running within its validation state.- Ensure all tooling assets are properly recorded in financial books for timely depreciation and timely disposal of obsolete tooling assets.**Diversity & Inclusion**We believe that different perspectives and backgrounds are what make a company flourish. Master molder 1 or 2 preferable.- Experience using Lean Six Sigma tools for process/systems improvements.- Experience managing custom molders and external tool makers, primarily in the US, Offshore is desirable.- At a minimum 10 years of hands-on experience procuring and specifying injection tools, troubleshooting, transferring and validating.- Knowledge in Tool Room equipment and machinery required to repair, refurbish and maintain injection tooling.- 3D modeling software for analysis and consulting, preferably Solid Works.- Bilingual, Fluent in English and Spanish**About Smiths****About Smiths Medical**Smiths Medical is always looking for people with a passion to positively impact the health and wellbeing of people around the world.
