Summary We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer with a strong foundation in PHP, Laravel, Python, and extensive experience in API design, application security, DevOps, and modern backend architecture. This role involves not just coding but leading backend design, infrastructure planning, and collaborating across teams to bring digital products to life. You'll own major systems, design for scalability, and play a key role in our agile delivery process. This is a leadership role for someone who's comfortable influencing technology strategy, coaching others, and ensuring backend excellence aligns with business priorities. Responsibilities & Priorities Backend Engineering & Architecture Design and implement backend services, APIs, and databases using PHP (Laravel) and Python, with clean, scalable, and secure architecture. Lead and manage the full lifecycle of backend systems—from concept and architecture to implementation and support. Create and manage database structures, schemas, and data pipelines with attention to efficiency and performance. API Development & Security Build and document robust RESTful and GraphQL APIs. Enforce best practices in application security including authentication, authorization, data protection, and regular code security reviews (OWASP Top 10, token-based auth, etc.). DevOps & Infrastructure Work closely with DevOps to ensure backend services are performant and cost-effective in AWS environments. Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines for backend deployments, testing, and monitoring. Take full ownership of deployment and rollback processes. Project Management & Agile Delivery Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, QA, and front-end teams to define clear deliverables and sprint goals. Break down complex business requirements into detailed backend stories and tasks for execution. Participate actively in Agile ceremonies (daily standups, retrospectives, sprint planning). Leadership & Best Practices Serve as a mentor to other developers and lead by example in writing clean, testable, and well-documented code. Enforce code review standards and continuous improvement processes. Be assertive in architectural discussions and back decisions with data and best practices. Requirements Technical Skills: 6+ years of experience in backend development roles. Advanced knowledge of PHP (Laravel) and Python. Expertise in REST/GraphQL API design and secure integration patterns. Experience with application security, including vulnerability scanning and mitigation. Strong knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, and data modeling principles. Experience working with CI/CD, Git, and infrastructure-as-code tools. Proficiency in AWS services and cloud cost optimization strategies. Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, sprint planning, and estimation techniques. Familiarity with AI/ML integration and microservices architecture is a plus. Comfortable challenging assumptions and raising flags early in the process. Driven by results, with a sharp eye for detail and a bias for action. Open to feedback and dedicated to mentorship and continuous learning. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Proven track record in backend leadership roles within agile software teams. Experience delivering scalable systems that align with both technical and business goals. Prior mentorship or team leadership experience is a plus.
