JOB SUMMARY
Materials SME I is responsible for driving standard work and continuous improvement in the processes, systems, and material functional talent development. This role is required to be the technical expert of processes and systems in one or multiple materials areas (Planning, Purchasing, Inventory Control, etc.) as well as a qualified project leader capable of working with the operations team to implement improvements that provide best-in-class service levels, target profitability, and differentiated capabilities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead as Site Subject Matter Expert in one or multiple standard Materials (Planning, Purchasing, Inventory Control, etc.) processes.
  • Lead as Site Subject Matter Expert in one or multiple standardized Materials systems and applications.
  • Coach, mentor, and provide training to the materials team and create a learning environment.
  • Monitor key Materials metrics for assigned customer(s) and sites.
  • Support and/or maintain all lower-level materials team essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Perform regular internal audits to ensure the materials operations are under control.
  • Drive the standardization, simplification, and optimization with a continuous improvement cycle in the materials processes and systems.
  • Communicate, consult, and inform site best practices with supporting data to Regional and Global materials teams.
  • Materials Improvement Project Leader of medium-level complexity and cross-functional in the site, including:
    • Diagnosing and identifying process and system gaps vs. best-in-class operations by applying expertise in certain areas.
    • Collaborating with stakeholders to define project framework and tangible goals.
    • Collaborating with stakeholders to define and prioritize improvement projects to enhance existing business processes/systems.
    • Mapping ‘as is’ processes with proper granularity and brainstorming with stakeholders and the system solution team of desired future processes.
    • Leading the project team in business requirement documentation submission.
    • Defining and recognizing project Key Performance Indicators and managing the work within scope, quality, time, and cost constraints.
    • Collaborating with stakeholders and the IT solution team to define test plans with well-evaluated business scenarios in relevant functional areas.
    • Conducting project risk assessments and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies with the project team.
    • Actively managing all levels of stakeholders through an appropriate communication plan and performing timely escalation to the next level of management when necessary.
    • Forecasting project budget and staffing needs.
    • Actively tracking project progress and providing timely updates.
    • Accountable for overall project success including cost, schedule, quality, and scope management.
    • Identifying project buyoff criteria.
    • Working with the project team to develop training plans, training materials, and delivering necessary training sessions to ensure end-user awareness and preparedness for change.
    • Coordinating other validation activities required by the project.
  • Supporting the Lean organization by developing a solid process foundation and data integrity to support process improvement throughout the organization.
  • Complying with and following all procedures within the company security policy.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Typically reports to Management. Direct supervisor job title(s) typically include: Regional SME Manager or Regional Functional Manager in the area of support (e.g., Materials Manager, Planning Manager, Purchasing Manager, Inventory Control Manager, etc.).
  • Job is NOT directly responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and/or pay decisions, performance management).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Key Requirements:
    Understanding of Materials standards, procedures, systems, and work methodologies.
  • Understanding and application of a broad range of materials relevant systems and technology.
  • Understanding of JOS, Quality Systems applied to internal manufacturing processes and how it connects to materials processes and systems.
  • Understanding of Jabil’s global strategies and direction.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in successful change management, implementing and managing continuous improvements and cost reduction programs.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage conflict.
  • Advanced PC skills including knowledge of Jabil's software packages.
  • Proficient verbal and written English skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety standards & requirements.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft Project skills required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 8 years of working experience in any Materials field.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in Materials Operation, Supply Chain is preferred, such as APCIS Certification, etc.
  • PMP Certification preferred.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
