DESCRIPTIONThis is a unique technical role where you will have the opportunity to influence, invent, and design platform architecture across multiple product and technology spaces (Alexa devices, IoT devices, etc.). You will be building the foundation upon which many internal as well as external products will be based. You will design and abstract platform solutions necessary to support 1000’s of products with scalability and quality as your top tenets.You will join a team whose mission is to ensure that state-of-the-art technologies that serve the customer can be used by developers via flexible software architectures, OS and Hardware Platform abstraction, testability, and scalability across multiple device types.You will dive into ambiguous problem spaces and meticulously distill out design choices, trade-offs, and priorities. You are data and metric driven, and obsessively concerned about performance in resource- constrained environments. You will define and build features and tools used by thousands of developers for building for millions of customers. We work across multiple internal teams as well as product to define what we are building and make it a reality. SDEs on this team are actively writing native code (C++), as well as working on designs and mentoring others. As the Device OS org we get to work horizontally across many exciting new device types.About the teamThis team’s primary focus is to enable developers to swiftly create delightful, performant, and interactive devices for our smart home ecosystem. We are responsible for working closely with developers and end customers to build the frameworks and tools that they need to be highly productive. As a part of the Device OS organization, you’ll get to interact and work with multiple teams to develop an ecosystem end to end from product conception to ultimately shipping on the vast number of Amazon devices in the field.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering teamPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
