Rooted in the USMC values of honor, courage, and commitment, Terrestris seeks to deliver extraordinary value to the American people by helping the Government become more efficient and effective.**_So, what will the Surveying Technician_**_do?_**The Surveying Technician will support the Forest Service's Boundary Management Program at El Yunque National Forest. This position assists professional land surveyors and land managers in performing a range of field and office duties related to land boundary location, maintenance, documentation, and mapping. Work will help ensure legal compliance, land stewardship, and operational efficiency within forest boundaries.**_What does a typical day look like for the Surveying Technician?_**You will:- Survey about fifteen (15) miles of wilderness trails.- Perform Boundary Maintenance of twenty (20) miles of boundary lines from damages of Hurricanes Irma, Maria, and Fiona.- Perform a Topography Survey for trail damage from Hurricane Fiona and Storm Ernesto.- Collect field data using GNSS, total stations, and other survey instruments under the direction of a professional land surveyor.- Interpret legal land records, plats, deeds, and survey documents.- Operate and maintain survey equipment and ensure accurate data recording.- Support GIS data collection and contribute to spatial data updates for boundary management systems.- Prepare field notes, sketches, and digital reports of boundary survey activities.- Safely traverse rugged terrain in various weather conditions.- Communicate effectively with team members, forest staff, and occasionally with adjacent landowners.- Follow all safety protocols and USFS regulations during fieldwork.- Authorization to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship.- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field preferred.- Minimum 1-2 years of experience supporting land surveying projects, preferably on public or forest lands.- Familiarity with GNSS units, total stations, and related data collection devices.- Basic understanding of land survey principles, including Public Land Survey System (PLSS) and metes and bounds.- Proficiency in reading survey maps, plats, and legal land descriptions.- Basic computer skills, including use of GIS or CAD software (preferred).- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check.**_What qualifications do you look for?_**You might be the professional we're looking for if you have:**_We are _**_extra_**_ impressed by folks with:_**- Prior experience working with the USDA Forest Service or other federal land management agencies.- Bilingual (English and Spanish) communication skills.- Familiarity with the topography, ecology, or access routes of El Yunque National Forest.**_What kind of benefits does Terrestris Offer? _**We offer outstanding benefits including health, life, disability, financial, and retirement benefits, as well as paid leave, professional development, tuition assistance, and work-life programs.
