**Project Summary**:This USAID activity, For the Protection of Human Rights & Environmental Defenders and Journalists/ Por la Protección de Personas Defensores y Periodistas (PDP) will seek to improve the capacity of the Government of Mexico and non-state organizations to prevent and to counter violence and threats against human rights advocates, environmental defenders, and journalists in Mexico. The project will support five target states in Mexico, along with indirect assistance to four additional states, as possible.**Please note: Only **Mexican **citizens are eligible for this position****Position Summary**:**Responsibilities**:- Provides technical guidance to PDP programming meant to enhance the prosecution of crimes against journalists, human rights defenders, and environmental defenders.- Advise the PDP team on weaknesses and strengths of protection systems in each target state.- Offer expertise on potential partner institutions and civil society actors with which PDP might work to achieve prosecution-related objectives.- Advise on the development of gender sensitive methodologies to assess the risk posed to vulnerable actors by ongoing threats.**Qualifications**:- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.- A minimum ten years of experience working in or with Mexican protection systems targeting vulnerable demographics.- Demonstrable knowledge of protection systems and a capacity to identify the nuances, strengths, and weaknesses of various systems at the state level.- Substantial knowledge of the institutional framework (e.g., NPM and SPU) shaping the protection of journalists, human rights defenders, and environmental defenders.- Experience working with international donor programming is preferred.- Fluency in Spanish and proficiency in English is required.MSI is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion.
