Role Overview We are hiring Golang engineers of all seniority levels for relevant teams at Canonical. If you are an exceptional software engineer who prefers to work in Go and thrive in a fully remote, distributed environment, we want to hear from you. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining the systems that deliver Ubuntu worldwide. Location Open roles for Golang engineers in every time zone. Responsibilities Design and implement well‑tested, documented software in Go. Debug and resolve issues encountered by users. Participate in code and architectural reviews. Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications. Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices. Deploy and operate services developed by the team (in some cases). Contribute to product success through technical advocacy. Qualifications Exceptional academic track record (high school and university). Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or compelling alternative path. Track record of exceeding expectations and delivering on schedule. Professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community. Experience designing and writing high‑quality Golang software on Linux. Passion for Linux at the system level. For senior roles: experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs. Professional written and spoken English. Experience with Debian or Ubuntu preferred. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Result‑oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments. Ability to travel twice a year, up to two weeks each time, for company events. Nice‑to‑Have Skills Experience developing for Ubuntu Linux. Experience with Juju, LXD, Microk8s, Snapd, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Pro. Performance engineering and security experience.
