Role What's the role? As a Senior Data Scientist in Seller Analytics you will be building out and discovering insights for the heart of Etsy - our sellers. This scientist will be essential in helping us create best-in-class seller tools, monitoring and improving performance and adoption of these tools, and working to ensure new sellers onboarding to Etsy have a smooth process. As a senior data scientist, you will be a key partner in shaping the future of the Etsy seller service roadmap. This position acts as a leader and collaborator with product, design, engineering, and research to drive insights. We are looking for someone who understands how to weigh opportunities, create unique insights, and is passionate about thinking and communicating around the seller experience. This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Manager of Analytics. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Mexico City Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Team and Day-to-Day What’s this team like at Etsy? The Seller Analytics team is committed to applying data science and analytics techniques to drive meaningful insights. This includes leading improvements to the seller experience through data-driven understanding. We focus on uncovering the nuances of Etsy’s sellers and how they connect to Etsy’s unique strengths. The team builds rich, reliable data sources that integrate sophisticated seller data with foundational information from across the Etsy ecosystem. We also identify and advocate for high impact opportunities that drive Etsy’s growth and move critical metrics. What does the day-to-day look like? Develop insights from trends and research in our seller data. Work with our seller product teams to ensure launches are impactful and the seller experience is being improved. Build foundational scripts using SQL and database skills. Craft outstanding dashboards and visualizations using Looker. Participate in dialogues with external vendors and collaborators, including technical developers. Connect with partners on timelines, priorities, and expectations for proposals. Continually evaluate and refine your technical toolkit; share what you learn with the team. Possess a deep level of curiosity and appetite for learning, which drives you to finding outstanding solutions. Qualities that will help you thrive 4+ years experience supporting seller side e-commerce, or product/engineering teams as an analyst or in a quantitative role in which you extracted meaning from sophisticated data sets. Have an understanding of two-sided marketplaces and e-commerce processes. A proficiency in SQL and some experience with Python or R. Fluent in English with the ability to communicate your insights verbally, visually and in writing. A deep care about the quality of your data and the integrity of your work. A passion for reproducible work and tools to this end; you can mentor others how to make their own work better and more efficient. A curious nature about subjects such as quantitative analysis, data visualization, and process efficiency. Validated project management skills and capability in carrying projects through to completion. A trust in and dedication to Etsy’s vision, mission and values.
