Oversees the installation, modification, upgrade and maintenance of prototype, lab, and manufacturing equipment. Maintains professional and equipment vendor networks to stay updated on trends and developments in the equipment industry. Uses study of equipment performance and reliability to improve equipment design. Establishes programs and solutions for increasing uptime and for equipment problems that affect the manufacturing process. Provides technical support to the process development, process engineering and manufacturing equipment maintenance engineering organizations. Involvement may begin at any step from laboratory-scale to pilot plant to full-scale manufacturing. Coordinates design requirement review with appropriate engineering/scientific personnel to ensure that equipment meets process, manufacturing, and safety requirements as well as operation cost targets. Designs experiments and compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for equipment design specifications.
