Performance Engineer

Scope of the Role Work closely with key stakeholders to understand business and functional requirements to develop test plans, test cases and scripts. Works complex testing assignments. Identifies defects and recommends appropriate course of action; performs root cause analyses. Coordinates multiple testers and testing activities within a project. Retests after corrections are made to ensure problems are resolved. Documents, evaluates and researches test results for future replication. Identifies, recommends and implements process improvements to enhance testing strategies. Analyzes requirements and design aspects of projects. Collaboration and Interfaces Interfaces with client leads and development teams. Exhibits sound understanding of concepts and principles in own technical area and a basic knowledge of these elements in other areas. Requires in-depth understanding of how own area integrates within IT testing and has basic commercial awareness. Makes evaluative judgments based on analysis of factual information in complicated and novel situations. Participate in test strategy meetings. Has direct impact on the team and closely related teams by ensuring the quality of the tasks services information provided by self and others. Requires sound and comprehensive communication and diplomacy skills to exchange complex information. Provide metrics related to the cost, effort, and milestones of Quality activities on a project level. Acts as advisor and mentor for junior members of the team. Regularly assumes informal / formal leadership role within teams. Perform other duties and functions as assigned. Required Skills and Experience 5-8 years Testing Analyst experience. Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and how Quality Assurance methodology fits into the SDLC. Knowledge of relevant operating systems, languages and database tools. Knowledge of defect tracking systems and processes; including change management. Knowledge of automated regression testing tools. Experience of testing trading platforms or similar software. Requires methodical approach to testing and problem solving. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with a proactive attitude, always seeking opportunities to add value. Specific software languages will be dependent of area of business. Education Bachelor's / University degree or equivalent experience. Performance Engineering Responsibilities Work closely with Development Leads / Architects on designing / implementing code optimizations. Provide technical consulting and mentoring to team members on optimization techniques, new algorithm design, implementation and conformance to architecture standards. Provide for proactive performance issue identification and root cause analysis. Identify and standardize performance engineering, testing and certification approach and success criteria including governance of performance test executions, analyzing performance test results and identifying tuning / optimization opportunities based on test results. Produce performance testing workload definition and analysis, factoring in known or projected volumes and transaction mix, to ensure coverage of critical business transactions. Engage technology stack owners for results analysis, product tuning, and recommendations implementation. Integrate with Business Analyst and Solutions Architects to Drive Performance throughout the Project Lifecycle and define Non-Functional Requirements related to Performance & Capacity. Be detail oriented and deliverable focused. Performance Engineering Qualifications This position requires a Bachelors Degree or higher and a minimum of 5+ years of Information Technology experience, ideally in Financial Services, with specialty in the area of Enterprise-scale Application Performance Engineering and Optimization. Understanding of architectural concepts around Cloud Computing and base software Development. Experience with service-oriented platform development using JAVA, JEE, Spring Framework, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, and Tibco. Experience with load testing tools, profiling tools and regression testing. Knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing and firewalling. Experience with monitoring tools like AppDynamics APM, Splunk. Experience performance testing distributed systems projects with in-depth experience on J2EE framework, Oracle relational databases, Middleware and understanding of open systems. Prior experience with Load Runner and creating scripts, defining scenarios, etc. Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to provide hands on technical support and analysis on as needed basis.
