The Fixture & Tooling Engineer is responsible for the design, development, release, and support of assembly, test, and rework fixtures required for production line transfer and sustaining manufacturing. The role ensures that tooling and fixtures enable robust assembly processes, effective detection and prevention methods, and safe, ergonomic production operations.Key Responsibilities:Design, develop, and release assembly, test, and rework fixtures to support production line transfersDevelop detection and prevention devices (poka-yoke, gauges, go/no-go tools)Support assembly process definition by translating process requirements into effective fixture solutionsDesign fixtures to improve repeatability, quality, ergonomics, and operator safetySupport rapid fixture iterations during line ramp-up and issue resolutionCoordinate with internal shops and external tooling suppliers for fabrication and modificationSupport validation and acceptance of fixtures prior to production releaseMaintain fixture documentation, drawings, and revision controlSupport cost, lead-time, and standardization improvements for fixtures and toolingScope & Authority:Technical ownership of fixture and tooling solutions used for line transfer and sustaining activitiesAuthority to approve fixture designs that meet defined engineering and safety requirementsNo ownership of production equipment maintenance or Operations tooling standardsSuccess Metrics:Fixture readiness aligned with line transfer milestonesEffectiveness of fixtures in preventing assembly errors and defectsReduction in rework and assembly variationFixture development lead time and responsivenessRequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering (or equivalent experience)3–7 years of experience in fixture, tooling, or manufacturing equipment designExperience designing fixtures for electromechanical assembly or cable assembliesProficiency with 3D CAD tools and technical drawingsDesired Skills & Attributes:Strong understanding of assembly processes and tolerance stack-upsExperience with poka-yoke and error-proofing conceptsHands-on, practical engineering mindsetAbility to work closely with shop-floor personnelStrong problem-solving and communication skills
