Position Overview Part‑time, temporary faculty positions in physics/astronomy are available across the San Diego Community College District campuses. Applicants must reside within commuting distance to San Diego. Hires are made on an as‑needed basis for fall, spring or summer semesters. Major Responsibilities Provide instruction in lecture and lab classes pursuant to the established curriculum and course outlines. Be available to students outside of class and maintain professional standards of conduct and ethics. Keep current knowledge in the subject matter areas. Teach all scheduled classes and maintain accurate records. Create and sustain a learning environment that encourages discussion of ideas, interests and issues. Qualifications Master’s degree in Physics, Astronomy or Astrophysics from a regionally accredited institution, or Bachelor’s in Physics or Astronomy plus Master’s in Engineering, Mathematics, Meteorology or Geophysics, or California Community College Instructor Credential (valid for life) in Astronomy and Astral Physics and/or Physics, or Equivalent qualifications. Applicants possessing foreign degrees must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of NACES or ACEI and submit the evaluation with their application. Employment Conditions Submit official transcripts upon hiring. Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment; renewal required every four years. Clearance by Live Scan fingerprinting must be obtained prior to first day of employment. Present original documents proving eligibility to work in the United States. Application Process Applications are accepted continuously and may be considered for future semester assignments. The application pool is maintained for one year; candidates will be notified if they need to re‑apply to remain in the pool.
