Border Patrol Agent (BPA) Entry Level. New Recruitment and Retention Incentives Resumen U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is hiring full‑time, entry‑level Law Enforcement Officers (LEO). Duty assignments at the time of offer may include the Southwest Border and prioritized locations; relocation may be required. Salario y Beneficios Annual Base Salary for newly appointed BPAs varies per grade. Fully trained BPAs may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act. GL‑5/GL‑7: $49,739 – $89,518 per year (locality pay applies in some locations) Career ladder: GL‑5, GL‑7, GL‑9, GS‑11, GS‑12 with promotion after 52 weeks per grade Benefits include health, dental and other insurance plans, annual and sick leave, and the Thrift Savings Plan (a retirement plan similar to a ROTH 401(k)) Recruitment Incentive: up to $20,000 – first $10,000 after successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location. Retention Incentive: up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years. Deberes y Responsabilidades Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and custom laws; inspecting documents and possessions. Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers by maintaining surveillance from covert positions and using infrared scopes during night operations. Interpreting tracks, marks and other physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband. Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks. Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways with vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off‑road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles and motorcycles. Calificaciones GL‑5: one year of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or a combination of experience and education. GL‑7: one year of specialized work experience that includes firearms judgment, courteous interaction with law‑enforcement subjects, rapid decision making and arrests; or a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement; or one year of graduate‑level education related to law enforcement; or a combination of experience and education. Previous or current law‑enforcement or military law‑enforcement experience may qualify for GL‑9 or GS‑11. Requisitos Adicionales Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen. Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. Entrenamiento Formal After hire, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico for approximately six months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law‑enforcement operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms and other courses. Border Patrol work requires proficiency in Spanish and English; training to become proficient in Spanish is provided at the Academy.
