Project Leader

Overview Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science. The company manufactures glass substrates for active matrix LCDs used in LCD televisions, notebook computers, and flat panel desktop monitors. The role provides subject matter expertise in engineering to improve product, process and/or equipment performance and to advance the innovation process for new products. It supports design and analysis of first/next generation products, processes and/or equipment, and documents intellectual property developed as part of projects. Key Responsibilities Provides leadership in problem solving and technical expertise to ensure timely resolution of short-term process and equipment issues, and higher level troubleshooting Directs other technicians/engineers, coaches junior engineers, and provides guidance to maintenance personnel Applies general engineering and manufacturing skills to lead projects to root cause and implement permanent solutions Provides disciplined project leadership across multiple stages of innovation for new products, processes, cost reduction, and capacity improvement initiatives Recommends and implements permanent solutions to long-term performance issues and improves existing and new technologies and processes Develops and leads areas of the manufacturing/technical roadmap; documents material, process, and/or equipment to protect and contribute to IP improvements Proficient in statistical data analysis and DOE for process problem solving and improvement Identifies, justifies, and implements cost reduction, capacity enhancement, and capital equipment initiatives Introduces new products and technologies Develops SME knowledge of material, process, and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering Tracks project effectiveness and cost reductions using uptime, cost, productivity, and other measures Leads process control/discipline, SPC, SQC, OEE, designed experiments, and other performance excellence processes Experiences/Education – Required Bachelor of Science or equivalent in technical field Yellow Belt Training Lean Fundamentals Track record of delivering results Broad manufacturing and engineering experiences Project leadership (scope to implementation) Coaching and developing junior engineers/technicians Manufacturing Workshops (MPIW or equivalent) Experiences/Education – Desired Bachelor of Science (Engineering) or Masters of Science (Engineering or Applied Science) Green Belt certification Black belt (6 Sigma or Innovation) training Project and/or manufacturing financial management knowledge Knowledge of Innovation Stage-gate processes Corning Puts YOU First We are committed to supporting your health, financial, career development, and life goals as you grow professionally and personally to achieve your highest potential.
