Automation Maintenance Manager will lead maintenance operations for Symbotic’s advanced robotic and automation systems within a high-volume customer distribution center. This role ensures maximum uptime, system reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness across a network of bots, lifts, conveyors, controls, and supporting infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical expert with strong electro-mechanical skills and proven experience directing maintenance teams in automated or manufacturing environments. This role drives preventive and corrective maintenance programs, continuous improvement initiatives, safety compliance, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure stable, efficient, and safe system performance. The Automation Maintenance Manager will develop and empower a high-performing technical team while partnering with operations and engineering to deliver best-in-class automation availability and throughput. What You’ll Do Lead maintenance operations to ensure uptime, reliability, and performance of automation systems, robotics, and bots.
Manage, develop and meet preventive and corrective maintenance programs for bots, robotic systems, and automation infrastructure, including Symbotic’s maintenance program, through effective training, delegation, and accountability for technicians and leads supervising maintenance technicians and leads, including assigning work, establishing schedules, and ensuring shift coverage using CMMS tools and best practices. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance, reduce downtime, and strengthen reliability, coordinating initiatives that reduce maintenance and operating costs while maintaining high equipment performance. Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, SRTE, and customer teams to support automation and operational goals. Conduct safety training, safety observations, and reinforce a strong safety culture across maintenance teams.
Coach maintenance team members to support technical skill development, troubleshooting capability, and professional growth. Plan, schedule, and monitor the timely completion of maintenance work orders. Apply root-cause analysis and corrective-action processes to address equipment failures and recurring system issues. Partner with vendors and subcontractors when required to support repairs, upgrades, and specialized maintenance tasks.
Purchase and manage inventory of materials, parts, and supplies to maintain necessary stock levels. Maintain accurate maintenance records, documentation, and reporting to support compliance and continuous improvement. Lead troubleshooting efforts and facilitate structured problem-solving for robotic and automation systems. Maintain work areas according to housekeeping and 5S standards to ensure a clean, organized maintenance environment.
Perform additional duties as required by leadership. What You’ll Need Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical or related field (or equivalent work experience). Minimum 5 years of maintenance, automation, or manufacturing experience, including team supervision. Strong electro-mechanical skills, advanced troubleshooting capability, and proficiency with CMMS platforms (Maximo preferred).
Technical experience and troubleshooting of PLCs, servo drives, optical, laser, inductive and capacitive sensors, complex ethernet automation networks (Rockwell), ABB and mechanical transfer systems. Proven ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience
supervising maintenance teams and providing structured coaching and performance development. Proficiency in preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, tolerance checks, electrical measurements, and mechanical inspections. Ability to work independently while following established procedures, manuals, and safety protocols. Strong sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced automation environment.
Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills. Receptive to feedback and able to maintain a positive, team-oriented approach. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy. Our Environment Up to 10-15% travel may be required; onboarding/training travel may be up to 60%.
A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client locations are required. The employee may be responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses for reimbursement bi-weekly. Ability to climb stairs and work in heights. Regularly near railings that are high off the ground.
Subject to environmental conditions and temperature ranges from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit. Work at heights up to 45 feet and in restricted areas of 24 inches; may need to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Asignar trabajo, establecer horarios y asegurar la cobertura de turnos utilizando herramientas CMMS y mejores prácticas. Implementar iniciativas de mejora continua para optimizar el desempeño del sistema, reducir tiempos de inactividad y fortalecer la confiabilidad, coordinando iniciativas que reduzcan los costos de mantenimiento y operación. Colaborar de manera interfuncional con Operaciones, Ingeniería, SRTE y equipos del cliente para apoyar los objetivos de automatización y operación.
Realizar capacitaciones de seguridad, observaciones de seguridad y reforzar una sólida cultura de seguridad en los equipos de mantenimiento. Capacitar y orientar a los miembros del equipo de mantenimiento para apoyar el desarrollo de habilidades técnicas, la capacidad de resolución de problemas y el crecimiento profesional. Planificar, programar y supervisar la finalización oportuna de las órdenes de trabajo de mantenimiento. Aplicar análisis de causa raíz y procesos de acción correctiva para abordar fallas de equipos y problemas recurrentes del sistema.
Colaborar con proveedores y subcontratistas cuando sea necesario para apoyar reparaciones, actualizaciones y tareas de mantenimiento especializado. Comprar y gestionar el inventario de materiales, refacciones y suministros para mantener niveles de stock adecuados. Mantener registros, documentación e informes de mantenimiento precisos para apoyar el cumplimiento normativo y la mejora continua. Liderar los esfuerzos de diagnóstico y facilitar la resolución estructurada de problemas en sistemas robóticos y de automatización.
Mantener las áreas de trabajo de acuerdo con los estándares de orden y limpieza y 5S para asegurar un entorno de mantenimiento limpio y organizado. Sólidas habilidades electromecánicas, capacidad avanzada de diagnóstico y dominio de plataformas CMMS (Maximo). Experiencia técnica y en diagnóstico de PLC, variadores de servos, sensores ópticos, láser, inductivos y capacitivos, redes complejas de automatización Ethernet (Rockwell), sistemas ABB y sistemas mecánicos de transferencia. Capacidad comprobada para liderar equipos, comunicarse eficazmente e impulsar iniciativas de mejora continua. Experiencia supervisando equipos de mantenimiento y brindando capacitación estructurada y desarrollo del desempeño.
Dominio de tareas de mantenimiento preventivo como limpieza, lubricación, verificación de tolerancias, mediciones eléctricas e inspecciones mecánicas. Capacidad para trabajar de forma independiente siguiendo procedimientos establecidos, manuales y protocolos de seguridad.
