The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit agricultural research for development organization with partners in over 100 countries.CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Rural Business and Agricultural Market Specialist to conduct market and value chain specific mapping exercises, identify specific commercial opportunities for target farmers and products and evaluate and propose marketing strategies for Agricultural Products.**The position will be based in either Metropolitan Area of Mexico City/Southwest Mexico and will require travel within Mexico and Central America.****Specific Duties**:- Conduct market and value chain specific mapping exercises.- Assess and determine opportunities to meet the domestic and local market segments of consolidated crops or most promising alternative crops for target regions of Mexico and Central America.- Identify specific commercial opportunities for target farmers and products, working closely with commercial aggregators and rural enterprises.- Evaluate and propose marketing strategies for Agricultural Products (such as quality food products or maize production systems or and their associated crops).- Liaise with the appropriate stakeholders to design and implement the development of a capacity building strategy related to market literacy and collective action.- Assess and provide advice to farmers and farmers groups on core rural business management areas.- Implement proven tools and methodologies to scale up the market participation.- Gather evidence through structured interviews and secondary data to assess collective action with farmer groups and farmer organizations.- Promote partnerships.- Contribute to the promotion and development of innovative models.- Integrate key learnings from the farmer-market linkages research in CIMMYT's innovation systems or hubs.- Any other related activities as requested by the supervisors of the position.**Requirements**:**Required academic qualifications, skills, and attitudes**:- Combination of master's degree with relevant field experience (min 5 years).- Significant and demonstrated experience in farmer-market linkages projects (including field research).- Excellent data management and analysis skills.- Extensive experience in work with smallholder farmers in Latin America.- Experience in capacity development activities targeting farmers and/or technical advisors.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, English will be tested.- Willingness to travel; it is estimated about 60% of work in the field with farmers (Central America and Chiapas, Yucatan, and Oaxaca states) and about 40% of time dedicated to research, reporting, analysis and systematization.
