Head of Corporate Public Relations & Communications
Context/Scope:

Mexico is a strategic market for our company. Diageo employs approximately 2,500 people in Mexico and is the leading premium spirits' company in the country. Mexico is also the home of the Tequila & Mezcal category. Tequila is our third largest area of business globally, preceded by Scotch and beer. We are growing our current operations by building new facilities that will support the company's growth for years to come.
Our 10-year ESG action plan, 'Society 2030: Spirit of Progress', addresses the most material issues facing our company, people, brands, suppliers and communities. It has three priorities: to promote positive drinking, champion inclusion and diversity, and pioneer grain-to-glass sustainability.
We work to ensure alcohol can be enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle and partner with authorities, universities and NGOs to promote a culture of responsible sale of alcohol and responsible consumption. We are committed to beginning underage drinking, drink driving and the harmful use of alcohol.
We are also proud of our work to promote education and training in the communities where we operate. In recent years, our Learning for Life program has benefited more than 58,000 people through vocational and life-skills training.
Finally, Diageo, along with its Tequila brands Don Julio, Casamigos and DeLeon strives to replenish more than 100% of the water it uses in its tequila operations by the end 2025 and hopes to benefit the communities in which it operates in Jalisco.
The role of Head of Corporate PR & Communications will be crucial in delivering these goals and ambition, aligned to the global strategy in terms of strengthening and protecting Diageo’s reputation, driving employee engagement and promoting a positive public policy.
Dimensions
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Lead the corporate communications strategy for the Mexico & Tequila-Mezcal categories.
- Handle all external corporate communications agencies (PR, social media, content and event production).
- Build and strengthen relationships with media and other key partners.
- Oversee and lead internal communications for the IMC.
Purpose of Role:
- The primary purpose of the role is to support Diageo's external corporate communications in delivering its performance ambition: to build the best performing, most trusted and respected consumer goods company in the world by building stronger content and compelling narratives, unlocking media opportunities and partnering on key media events and initiatives for Diageo.
Top 3-5 Accountabilities:
- Lead the development and execution of the corporate communications strategy to improve Diageo's reputation and build strategic relationships with key partners: media, KOLs, NGOs, government, regulators, customers and suppliers.
- Oversee and lead the internal communications strategy for the IMC to drive employee engagement.
- Partner with the Marketing Director, Head of Reserve PR and Influencer Management team to bring to bear our consumer brand communications efforts.
- Partners closely with senior leaders to advise and develop crisis communications and issues management strategies & plans across communications channels. Provides strategic crisis communications and issues management counsel for executive leaders.
- Support the Corporate Relations team with strategic communications to demonstrate all corporate social responsibility and government relations efforts.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- 7 years’ experience, with multinational companies or public relations/communications agencies or related fields.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to influence teams and stakeholders and to work independently.
- Desirable (but not essential) to have experience in handling communication crisis.
- Graduate degree, preferable under Communications, Journalism or Marketing.
- Proficient in Spanish and English.
