**PROJECT BACKGROUND**:
Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) safeguards are fully integrated into GGGI’s Project Cycle Management. All staff have signed GGGI’s Code of Conduct and have been trained on GGGI’s GESI policies. GGGI has recently increased its GESI ambition in alignment with GGGI´s GESI Strategy for 2021-2025, which includes the implementation of Gender Equality and Poverty Reduction Policy Markers on all projects and the implementation of an Environmental, Social and Governance Safeguards toolkit guiding mainstream environmental, social, and governance considerations in all workstreams. GGGI has also launched a new institutional policy and guideline for inclusive events and knowledge processes committing to at least 30% women representation.

GGGI is committed to upholding its Gender Equality Strategy[1] and Sustainability and Safeguard Rules[2] at all times to mainstream gender equality, social inclusion, and poverty alleviation during projects and program implementation. GGGI requires all its staff[3], downstream partners, and private sector partners[4] to comply with GGGI Rules on Integrity Due Diligence[5] and Procurement Policy which reflect international standards and best practices. All of GGGI staff have completed the UN I Know Gender[6] course during their probation period. Annual training is also provided to ensure effective implementation of GGGI´s Gender and Social Checklist and GGGI’s Gender Equality and Poverty Reduction Markers. As a result, all GGGI projects must integrate Gender Equality and Social Inclusion considerations in all project’s life cycle from proposal development to delivery, including delivery, monitoring, reporting and learning.

One of those projects GGGI will develop in the following months is the GCF Readiness and Preparatory Support III (MEX-RS-003 or MX-34). This project complements a previous Readiness GCF grant by working directly with subnational (state) governments on harnessing climate finance through two assessments of their readiness to issue thematic debt and climate-smart PPPs.

This grant supports fourteen Latin American countries to identify and address the main barriers for electric mobility by providing the necessary assessments, capacities, and financing alternatives to accelerate adoption of electric mobility technology. This will be done with a twofold approach: at a national and regional scale. Nationally, understanding that even though electric mobility is at an early stage in all participant countries, barriers and corresponding solutions may vary depending on each country’s context and priorities. Regionally, by identifying transboundary issues and potentiating multi-country collaboration. Outputs from the e-mobility workstream could align with support on thematic bonds issuance and climate smart public private partnerships (PPPs) under this proposal.

This regional Readiness grant is focused on post-COVID-19 green recovery and the importance of designing green, resilient recovery efforts for food security in Latin American countries with the direct beneficiaries are the national public institutions for public policymaking in targeted countries, including Ministries/Secretaries of Environment and Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Finance/Planning. Potential complementarity is detected in the identification of innovative financial opportunities related to low emissions, climate resilient, and technologically intensive sustainable food security practices for medium and smallholder farmers and this proposal’s thematic bond issuance and climate smart PPPs.
