Position Summary

The Engineering Superintendent plays a crucial role in the strategic advancement, oversight, and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, along with the daily management of the Manufacturing Engineering team. This position requires a hands-on approach, leading a team of engineers to enhance operational efficiency through the adoption and maintenance of LEAN Manufacturing methodologies. The focus is on elevating product quality, optimizing line efficiency, improving labor utilization, refining layout designs, and managing operating costs for both current and new product lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee, mentor, and develop the manufacturing support team to achieve optimal performance levels.
  • Spearhead the application of LEAN Manufacturing principles across all manufacturing processes. Engage in Continuous Improvement and Kaizen initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Proactively address and resolve manufacturing process, equipment, and maintenance challenges in real-time to ensure superior outcomes for customers and the organization.
  • Identify, strategize, and implement continuous improvement measures that lower costs, reduce cycle times, and enhance safety, quality, and consistency.
  • Supervise the development of equipment specifications for capital equipment procurement and the design of tools, jigs, and fixtures to ensure effective results.
  • Conduct time studies to establish engineering labor standards and process routings.
  • Create standard operating procedures for both new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Lead project teams to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and conclude projects.
  • Design tooling or fixtures for new products and assembly operations.
  • Organize and facilitate Kaizen activities, including planning and executing Kaizen events, while collecting and preparing necessary data for each event. Monitor and report on the sustainability of improvements made during Kaizen events.

Skills and Qualifications

A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in manufacturing engineering is required.

- At least three (3) years of experience in managing a team of engineers.

- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Lean Manufacturing (LEAN Manufacturing certification is advantageous).

- Familiarity with automation applications and their implementation is a plus.

- Experience with SAP is preferred.

- Background in facility layout optimization is desirable.

- Proficiency in conducting time studies and establishing labor standards is essential.

- Comprehensive knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost management, and techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

- Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

- A hands-on, driven, analytical, results-oriented, customer-focused self-starter with strong change management skills and mechanical aptitude, who enjoys leading diverse teams.

- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects across a wide range of priorities.

- Capable of collaborating with all levels of operational and professional staff.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Proficient in computer applications (AutoCAD and/or Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).

- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.

- Excellent time management abilities.
