Position Summary

The Engineering Superintendent plays a pivotal role in the strategic planning, oversight, and execution of continuous improvement initiatives while managing the Manufacturing Engineering team. This hands-on position requires a leader who can guide a team of engineers in supporting operational excellence through the application of LEAN Manufacturing methodologies. The focus is on enhancing product quality, optimizing processes, maximizing labor efficiency, and reducing operational costs for both existing and new product lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the manufacturing support team to achieve exceptional performance standards.
  • Drive the adoption of LEAN Manufacturing principles across all manufacturing operations. Facilitate Continuous Improvement and Kaizen initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Proactively address and resolve manufacturing process, equipment, and maintenance challenges in real-time to ensure optimal outcomes for customers and the organization.
  • Identify, strategize, and implement continuous improvement measures that enhance safety, quality, and efficiency while minimizing costs and lead times.
  • Oversee the development of equipment specifications for capital procurement and the design of tooling, jigs, and fixtures to achieve desired results.
  • Conduct time studies to establish engineering labor standards and optimize routing processes.
  • Create and maintain standard work documentation for both new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and finalize projects.
  • Design and develop tooling or fixtures for new product lines and assembly operations.
  • Organize and facilitate Kaizen events, including the preparation and analysis of necessary data to ensure successful outcomes. Monitor and report on the sustainability of improvements achieved through these events.

Qualifications for Success

A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in manufacturing engineering is required.

- At least three (3) years of experience in managing engineering teams.

- A minimum of three (3) years of experience with Lean Manufacturing practices (LEAN certification is advantageous).

- Familiarity with automation applications and their implementation is a plus.

- Experience with SAP systems is preferred.

- Knowledge of facility layout optimization is desirable.

- Proficiency in conducting time studies and establishing labor standards is essential.

- Understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management techniques is necessary for effective manufacturing and distribution.

- Competence in design techniques, tools, and principles related to the production of technical plans, blueprints, and models is important.

- A hands-on, results-driven, analytical mindset with strong change management skills and mechanical aptitude is essential for leading diverse teams.

- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with varying priorities.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to collaborate with all levels of staff.

- Proficiency in computer applications (AutoCAD, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) is necessary.

- Attention to detail and accuracy is crucial.

- Effective time management skills are essential.
