Conservation International is seeking a highly skilled Senior Carbon Manager to join our team in Mexico City, Mexico. As a key member of our Conservation Finance Division, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing high-quality carbon finance projects that support our mission to protect nature for the benefit of humanity.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and manage a portfolio of carbon finance projects in Mexico, including landscape restoration, climate-smart agriculture, and forestry projects.
- Collaborate with local partners, governments, and stakeholders to identify and develop project opportunities that meet our quality criteria and safeguards.
- Conduct desktop analysis and site visits to assess project feasibility and develop project information notes (PINs) for internal review.
- Manage project origination and evaluation workflow, including working closely with implementing partners, creating work plans and budgets, and providing guidance and training to local teams.
- Lead the coordination and development of feasibility assessments for selected REDD+, ARR, and IFM opportunities, highlighting key recommendations to advance them towards full development and implementation.
- Serve as the project manager for ongoing carbon projects in Mexico, coordinating administrative and compliance tasks, and providing overall supervision to technical aspects of the project.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant discipline, such as environmental science, economics, forestry, agronomy, law, or business.
- 4-6 years of work experience with NCS projects and/or jurisdictional initiative development and implementation.
- Demonstrated NCS carbon crediting knowledge and experience, including voluntary carbon markets and standards such as the Climate Action Reserve standard and the Mexico Forest Protocol, and Verra VCS / Climate Community & Biodiversity Standards.
- Demonstrated track record of working effectively and collaboratively with multicultural, international, and multidisciplinary teams to produce concrete results.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a matrix organization.
- Excellent written, reading, and speaking skills in English.
- Previous experience with project management.
- Familiarity with land management project design.
- Familiarity with other carbon standards such as Plan Vivo, Gold Standard, or Social Carbon.
- Familiarity with spatial analysis, GIS, and remote sensing.
- Commercial and business acumen to be able to develop bankable NCS projects.
