Marine Underwriter

The Marine Underwriter will play a crucial role in analyzing, quoting, and negotiating marine business to bring profitable business to the company. This position requires a strong understanding of marine cargo terms and conditions, as well as excellent communication and negotiation skills.

• Attend new business submissions and analyze, quote, and negotiate marine business in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
• Anticipate renewal processes to evaluate losses, terms, and conditions.
• Provide exceptional service to current portfolio requests, responding to brokers and agents in a timely manner consistent with SLAs.
• Interact with other AIG areas to collect or provide information, such as claims, distribution, actuary, and finance.
• Attend external meetings with brokers and insureds to reinforce business line strategy, strengthen relationships, and increase new business opportunities.
• Filing as required for all renewal and new accounts.
• Participate in various activities and provide necessary information to prepare reports and monitor results, including limits profile, portfolio review, KPIs, and other required information.
• Participate in assigned projects to improve operations, such as automation processes, or other projects requiring active participation.

• Comply with company guidelines, appetite, and risk focus to gain profitable business.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Good presentation skills and file knowledge.
• Time management – ability to manage and prioritize workload and diary management.
• Ability to contribute effectively within a team environment and with internal/external clients.
• Ability to assist with technical training to team claim handlers as required.

• At least 2 years of experience in middle market underwriting or knowledge of marine cargo terms and conditions.
• Proven experience in handling problems with agents, brokers, and clients.
• Technical skills, such as intermediate or advanced level of Excel.
• Soft skills, including effective broker engagement, commitment, teamwork, proactive management, effective time management/prioritization, calendar organization, negotiation skills, and engagement with the team.
• English required.
