Senior Cost Manager - Industrial and Data Center Projects

At Turner & Townsend, we're passionate about delivering exceptional results for our clients. As a Senior Cost Manager, you'll play a key role in helping us achieve this goal.

As a seasoned professional with at least 12 years of experience in Cost Management, you'll be responsible for leading the cost management team and providing cost management services, including invoice validation, cost forecasting, and reporting. You'll also be responsible for change management, close-out administration, quantity take-off, and pricing, as well as assisting with procurement management.

Our ideal candidate will have a methodical approach and superb interpersonal skills, with the ability to analyze costs and negotiate effectively. You'll be working across multiple sectors, including Industrial and Data Center projects, and will be responsible for developing cost management procedures and strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting feasibility studies and writing procurement reports
  • Applying Value Management techniques and collaborating with Turner & Townsend's specialist Value Management team
  • Managing estimating and cost planning activities, including presenting the final cost plan
  • Managing the procurement process, implementing procurement and contracting strategies, and participating in negotiations
  • Ensuring post-contract cost variances and change control processes are managed effectively
  • Ensuring cost checking and valuation work is managed effectively
  • Producing monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to the client
  • Value engineering and life cycle costing, driving value engineering and offering cost insights to support business decisions
  • Ensuring final accounts are negotiated and agreed
  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with external and internal stakeholders, including interfacing with the client and other consultants
  • Leading a cost management team, ensuring they deliver on all accountabilities
  • Staff management, including inputting into the formal management of a Cost Manager or small cost management team
  • Knowledge management, ensuring key information and lessons learned are input into the Turner & Townsend internal database
  • Financial management, utilizing Financial Management Systems to track ongoing margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts
  • Process improvement, identifying and acting upon ways to improve internal systems and processes
  • Reviewing construction plans and preparing quantity take-offs, along with Contract Preparation and Management
  • Preparing and reviewing detailed estimates and cost plans
  • Liaising with site managers, clients, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Preparing reports, analyses, contracts, budgets, risk assessments, and other documents
  • Developing cost procedures
  • Reviewing and approving subcontractor proposals, managing contracts, and change requests
  • Reviewing and approving payment applications, monitoring invoicing, and ensuring payments are in order
  • Advising the Project Manager of any foreseen cost over expenditure and proposing corrective actions
  • Reviewing monthly reports as presented by Contractor, and presenting to the Client
  • Traveling from the office to various sites as required or being based on site

Requirements:

  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience related to Engineering Cost Management
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or any degree relevant to the position
  • RICS, AACE Certifications/Memberships
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work under pressure to deliver deadlines
  • Good communication skills to systematically explain concepts and methodology
  • Strong client management, change management, and teamwork skills
  • Strong Microsoft skills, specifically Excel & PowerPoint, CostX, Knowledge of AutoCAD
