About the Role

The Information Technology Specialist for Horry County Schools will play a crucial role in directing an effective library information program that meets contemporary learning needs. This leadership position demands the use of evidence to make informed decisions in regard to literacy, instructional, and technology decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan with teachers as cooperative partners to integrate curriculum content with resource use and information literacy skills.
  • Consult with students and staff regarding their needs and interests in relation to the selection and utilization of materials and equipment.
  • Provide library media center resources that will meet the informational, research, educational, and recreational needs of users.
  • Organize, circulate, and maintain resources for easy accessibility.
  • Implement policies for effective use of technology through facilities organization, staff assistance, and technology committee facilitation.
  • Tutor specific skills needed for library media center and technology use with students and staff.
  • Coordinate information retrieval for students and staff through print, audiovisual, and electronic sources.
  • Promote literacy and enjoyment of reading, viewing, and listening.
  • Collaborate with administrators to formulate and implement a mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives for the library media program.
  • Participate as an active member of the School Improvement Team.
  • Develop and implement a long-range technology plan for the school.
  • Analyze curriculum changes and advances in technology to meet student needs.
  • Serve as technology liaison for the school.
  • Maintain inventory of books, computers, equipment, audiovisual materials, and software.
  • Manage financial accounts effectively.
  • Prepare reports for county and state officials.
  • Integrate reading, writing, oral, visual, and information literacy skills into all areas of instruction.
  • Ensure library/media center is conducive to learning.
  • Attend professional development opportunities to enhance skills.
  • Provide open access to students and staff throughout the school day.
  • Assist students in gathering, evaluating, synthesizing, and creating media in various formats.
  • Teach cross-curricular information access skills in collaboration with classroom teachers.
  • Circulate information technology materials and related equipment for ease of use.
  • Maintain a centralized, up-to-date bibliographic database for school information technology resources using automation.
  • Implement public relations strategies promoting the information technology center, services, and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid South Carolina certification for Media Specialist or meet requirements for the South Carolina Pace program.
  • Recommendation from the District Library Information Coordinator.
  • Experience managing school site collections and selecting/acquiring materials and equipment.

Physical Demands

This role requires frequent walking, sitting, standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students' behavioral needs. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus. Manual dexterity is necessary for data entry and phone usage. The ability to sit and stand for extended periods is required. Sufficient mobility is necessary to ensure student safety.

Salary Range

$65,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
