Job Summary

As a Manufacturing Engineering Lead at Jabil, you will be responsible for leading the Manufacturing Engineering Department in operating with a high level of efficiency, integrity, and enthusiasm. You will strive to achieve excellence in all endeavors, be a creative and proactive contributor on the management team, and focused on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive process test optimization, improvement, and execution to plan in collaboration with the Test and Quality Engineering leads and Manufacturing Shift Lead.
  • Lead and manage the Manufacturing Engineers and Machine Support Engineers, coordinating day-to-day activities in support of the manufacturing plan.
  • Display expert knowledge of the corporate Manufacturing Engineering environment and share information on the corporate environment with the Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Drive efficiencies in current technical systems and manage the development of new technical systems.
  • Support the Engineering Manager in evaluating and equipping the site for today and future needs.
  • Support the engineering manager with labor forecasting and skills needs in line with new business requirements.
  • Undertake technology benchmarking and drive 'best in class' engineering solutions.
  • Lead and manage the Manufacturing Engineering Function.
Individual Performance Management
  • Agree clear performance metrics and review performance metrics and progress continuously.
  • Effectively prepare for and perform informal 1-to-1s and annual appraisals.
  • Identify training and development needs on an ongoing basis and agree individual development plans.
  • Provide 1-to-1 coaching to facilitate individual excellence.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Team Performance Management
  • Drive a mindset of innovation and continuous improvement throughout the Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Create and manage a succession plan for the Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Drive motivation levels within the Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Drive consistency of approach and performance.
  • Ensure that an effective forum for the exchange of ideas and information exists within the Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Review the absence profile and employee turnover within the Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Facilitate/coach the Manufacturing Engineers and Machine Technicians with regards to their roles and responsibilities within the team.
  • Build and maintain effective customer relationships.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
External Customers
  • Support business development through assessing the needs of potential customers in conjunction with the Engineering Manager and Engineering Leads.
  • Provide effective tools and evaluation strategies to support Jabil Scotland's quoting activity.
  • Provide expert problem-solving and customer-focused support to individual businesses.
  • Drive the Manufacturing Engineering function to provide existing customers with improved business solutions.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Internal Customer
  • Proactively identify internal customer needs.
  • Drive 'internal customer focus' mindset within Engineering teams.
  • Effectively cascade functional/business information and expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in areas of cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Analyze and prioritize areas for Manufacturing Engineering improvement, e.g., machine uptime, efficiency improvements.
  • Create a continuous improvement culture throughout the Manufacturing Engineering team with proactive presence online focusing on key improvement areas.
  • Create a vehicle to support multi-disciplined teams at all organizational levels to drive proactive involvement in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with engineering disciplines and manufacturing to establish service level agreements.
  • Drive as a key focus both the site and global objectives through Focus, Commit, Deliver, and Lean deployment.
  • Attend and lead in key JOS meetings, particularly TIC and QIC.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, including using a Windows-based operating system and related software.
  • Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil's software packages.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence, read and understand visual aids, and apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
