Job Summary

As an Optics Engineer at Safran Electronics & Defense, you will play a critical role in designing and developing cutting-edge light-emitting devices that utilize optics principles. Your expertise in photometrics, optical materials, and bonding techniques will be essential in creating prototypes and overseeing the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop light-emitting devices using optics principles and materials such as lenses and circuits.
  • Ensure that light sources align with lenses to produce light emission, such as from a laser.
  • Determine how to produce and control light in high-tech devices.
  • Develop prototypes of optical systems and create detailed designs of optic, laser, or photonic technology.
  • Oversee the manufacturing team to ensure they adhere to design principles and test the final product with photometric test equipment.
  • Diagnose product defects or errors and order necessary supplies and resources for projects.
  • Write detailed instructions for equipment use and collaborate with other engineers to complete projects efficiently.
  • Create computer models of designs for client approval and stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements.
  • Familiarize yourself with LED, incandescent lighting, and aircraft dimming controls.
Requirements
  • Four-year bachelor's degree in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 or more years of specialized experience in photometrics or optics, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Language proficiency in Spanish and English is required.
  • Strong understanding of physics and proficiency in mathematics.
  • Problem-solving skills and manual dexterity.
  • Familiarity with MIL standards, including MIL-PRF-25050, MIL-PRF-7788, and MIL-STD-3009.
  • Ability to use scientific equipment, such as spectrometers and watt meters.
