Summary
This role represents the first full level of expertise in trade compliance, where the individual applies specialized knowledge across multiple areas. The work is conducted within established professional standards and policies, addressing a variety of challenges that require careful analysis of data and consideration of various factors. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the quality of work delivered by external partners, and may influence cross-functional teams to achieve compliance objectives while effectively resolving conflicts. Guidance is typically provided for unique or complex issues. The role may involve leading a project team or providing specialized advice and mentorship to junior staff, fostering both internal and external relationships.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing compliance with the site’s IMMEX program and identifying areas for improvement.
- Developing and maintaining import/export policies and procedures to ensure adherence to governmental customs and trade regulations.
- Conducting training and awareness programs to promote compliance among site personnel.
- Ensuring proper product classification for import/export and communicating specific requirements to stakeholders.
- Managing relationships with customs brokers, including performance oversight and billing.
- Leading process development and training initiatives related to operational enhancements or regulatory changes.
- Acting as a liaison with governmental agencies, including customs and trade offices.
- Collaborating with various levels of management to ensure compliance with logistics processes.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of the electronics manufacturing sector, including materials and processes.
- In-depth knowledge of customs regulations and traffic laws.
- Proficiency in standard office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Awareness of financial implications related to transportation and logistics.
- Strong analytical, financial, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to tackle complex process and system challenges using analytical models.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
Work Environment
- The role is primarily office-based, requiring prolonged periods of sitting and visual focus on computer screens.
- Frequent manual tasks such as data entry and computer usage are expected.
- Occasional travel may be necessary.
Experience and Education
- A minimum of six to eight years of relevant experience is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
