About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Linux Kernel Architect to join our team at Canonical. As a key member of our Kernel Team, you will be responsible for driving the technical direction and leading the delivery of a team of junior and mid-career engineers for a key aspect of Ubuntu Linux.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Set the technical direction and lead the delivery of a team of engineers for a key aspect of Ubuntu Linux.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with management within and outside the team to track and coordinate initiatives to delivery.
  • Kernel Engineering: Collaborate daily with other senior technical leadership on the Kernel Team on how best to ensure Ubuntu stays at the pinnacle of Linux distributions.
Requirements
  • Expertise: Demonstrated expertise working in a *nix-based operating system kernel and distribution. While direct Linux experience would be ideal, it is not mandatory.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Programming Skills: Expert understanding of the C programming language and proficiency in Python and Bash scripting.
  • Version Control: Powerful grasp of the capabilities and nuances of the git version control system.
  • Travel: Ability to travel internationally at least twice a year for company events of up to two weeks length.
Desirable Skills
  • RTOS and Real-Time Performance Analysis: Strong background in RTOS and real-time performance analysis.
  • Kernel Patching and Debugging: Demonstrated experience with kernel patching and debugging.
  • Device Drivers and BSPs: Strong grasp of device drivers, BSP's, and other low level system engineering.
