We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Country Counsel to lead our legal function in the region. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing complex legal matters, providing strategic advice to our businesses, and ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and support the Legal function, providing guidance to local businesses and Citi functions on all aspects of local and Citigroup legal matters.
- Ensure full compliance of all local Citigroup products and structures with local law, as in force, and where applicable with international standards.
- Manage the continuity and management of legal operations of Citigroup in the region, including local licenses and corporate governance.
- Advise the CCO on business and franchise legal issues, interface with regulators, and ensure consistency of Citigroup policies with local legal requirements.
- Escalate all issues to designated Division Counsel that are of importance within the role.
- Participate in local Management committees, manage and coordinate the provision of external legal services, and liaise with compliance in the development, updating, and presentation of training materials related to local laws and regulations.
- Assist overseas colleagues engaged in projects and deals involving local laws and regulations, manage and organize the handling of litigation cases, and manage several relationships with external legal counsels.
- Review customer complaints that could develop into legal actions or have regulatory implications, provide solution-oriented legal support and assistance to local businesses, and assess risk when business decisions are made.
- 10+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, relationship management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Effective negotiation skills and ability to maintain effective relationships.
- Membership of local Bar/Lawyers Association.
- Education: Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.
