Job Title: Country Counsel

The Country Counsel is a critical role that oversees the management of complex legal matters in a specific region. This position requires a high level of expertise in multiple areas of law and the ability to lead a team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and support the Legal function, providing guidance to local businesses and Citi functions on legal matters.
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations, as well as international standards.
  • Oversee the continuity and management of legal operations in the region, including company secretarial roles and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise the CCO on business and franchise legal issues.
  • Interface with regulators and ensure consistency of Citigroup policies with local legal requirements.
  • Escalate important issues to designated Division Counsel.
  • Participate in local Management committees.
  • Manage and coordinate the provision of external legal services.
  • Liaise with compliance on training materials related to local laws and regulations.
  • Assist overseas colleagues on projects and deals involving local laws and regulations.
  • Manage litigation cases involving Citigroup entities.
  • Manage the functioning of the Legal Department.
  • Draft and implement local legal policies and procedures.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsels.
  • Review customer complaints with regulatory implications.
  • Provide solution-oriented legal support to local businesses.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills and ability to maintain relationships.
  • Membership of local Bar/Lawyers Association.
Education:
  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.

This position is part of a new team that will report into the Head of Legal of Corporate Governance and Commercial Banking and will be responsible for regulatory compliance with securities market regulations, as well as disclosures to stock exchanges and regulators.

Experience in listed companies or capital markets firms is required.

Experience in IPOs, securities issuances, or listed companies is preferred.

Knowledge of investment policies, shareholder meetings, and regulatory compliance is essential.

Advanced English language skills (speaking, reading, writing) are required.
