CIMMYT’s Legal Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its team.



The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering exceptional legal support and services to a dynamic organization. They will possess a deep understanding of applicable laws, regulations, and policies, as well as the ability to provide timely and efficient advice to stakeholders.



Key Responsibilities


  • Contract Life Cycle Management: Execute and implement the contract life cycle management process, ensuring compliance with CIMMYT’s policies and procedures.
  • Compliance and Case Management: Support the Compliance Officer in managing and executing all aspects of case management, including entry, tracking, closure, and follow-up of cases.
  • Compliance Program Implementation: Assist in the implementation and monitoring of CIMMYT’s global compliance program, ensuring alignment with relevant policies, codes of conduct, and internal communications.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis of treaties, laws, regulations, policies, and procedures across various legal areas and jurisdictions where CIMMYT operates.
  • Compliance Software Management: Manage compliance and due diligence software tools, ensuring they are effectively utilized to streamline processes and maintain high standards of regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure CIMMYT remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements in Mexico and other jurisdictions.
  • Legal Advice and Support: Provide guidance and legal counsel and advice in diverse areas, including due diligence, labor, and regulatory requirements and policies.
  • Policies and Procedures: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and chapters to develop and implement policies and procedures aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance and ethical practices in CIMMYT’s research and operational activities.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks associated with CIMMYT activities and operations and develop risk management strategies to mitigate legal liabilities and safeguard the CIMMYT interest.
  • Compliance Reporting: Ensure diligent follow-up on entrusted matters by tracking them daily using provided dashboards and KPI monitoring tools.


Requirements




  • Master’s degree in Law (LL.M.)
  • At least 8 years of proven experience in in-house regulatory and compliance functions
  • Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish
  • High ethical standards with a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality
