CIMMYT is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its Legal Department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring the organization's compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, providing expert legal advice, and managing the contract life cycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute all aspects of contract life cycle management, including development, drafting, review, negotiation, amendment, and release.
- Support the Compliance Officer in managing and executing case management, including entry, tracking, closure, and follow-up of cases.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of treaties, laws, regulations, policies, and procedures across various legal areas and jurisdictions.
- Manage compliance and due diligence software tools to ensure effective utilization and high standards of regulatory compliance and risk management.
- Provide guidance and legal counsel on matters related to privacy and data protection, research ethics, occupational health and safety, phytosanitary standards, and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement policies and procedures aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance and ethical practices.
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with CIMMYT activities and operations, and develop risk management strategies to mitigate legal liabilities.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Law and a minimum of 8 years of experience in in-house regulatory and compliance functions.
- Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills, including the ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to lay stakeholders.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish, with a minimum of C2 on CEFR.
- Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and treating sensitive information with discretion.
