Overview: The role involves contributing to the fulfillment of compliance responsibilities, including tax returns and the management of intricate tax scenarios or projects, either independently or as a senior member of a national, regional, or global tax team.

This position is accountable for executing processes and ensuring the timely and precise delivery of corporate income tax, withholding tax, freight tax, and tax reporting obligations for APMM entities in LATAM. The successful candidate will collaborate with business controllers, auditors, and other professionals to effectively manage these responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct reviews of Corporate Income Tax and Withholding Tax returns, along with any other relevant informative returns associated with direct taxes.
  • Oversee the calculations of current and deferred Corporate Income Tax, including necessary temporary and permanent adjustments.
  • Evaluate group and local GAAP tax provisions, disclosures, and tax rate reconciliations.
  • Review quarterly tax estimate computations.
  • Ensure the accuracy of data required for tax returns, tax payments, and group/local GAAP tax reporting/disclosures.
  • Manage and operate Corporate Tax controls effectively.
  • Conduct analysis and research to support the interpretation of tax laws, tax planning, forecasting, and determining tax filing positions.
  • Lead initiatives for tax law and reporting standard changes from compliance, process, and systems perspectives, advising on implications for effective tax rates, cash forecasts, and disclosures.
  • Provide support for tax-related aspects of acquisitions, divestments, mergers, and restructuring activities.
  • Assist in tax audit support and risk management, including the Tax Risk Management (TRM) process. This involves gathering and reviewing data required for open tax audits and drafting responses to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Initiate and support process mapping, design, standardization, automation, and efficiency improvement initiatives, along with data quality enhancement projects.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with external and internal stakeholders, including third-party advisors and owners of upstream processes.
  • Supervise, manage, train, coach, and develop team members.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Business Administration or Economics. A qualification as a Chartered Accountant or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is advantageous.
  • Strong accounting knowledge and skills.
  • A minimum of 7 years of post-qualification experience in areas such as LATAM direct tax compliance, direct tax controversy support, and process management.
  • Experience in shared services or centers of excellence within large multinational corporations (MNCs) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial, accounting, and tax systems, processes, and controls.
  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Corptax Tax preparation products is a plus.
  • Proficiency in tax compliance and reporting software/tools.
  • Willingness to learn new applications and explore innovative working methods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to various stakeholder levels.
  • Language proficiency: Native Spanish and English at B2-C2 level according to the CEFR scale.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work flexibly, meet deadlines, and prioritize effectively.
  • Team player with experience in managing or leading small teams, including qualified professionals.
