Position Overview

CIMMYT seeks a highly organized and service-oriented professional to fill the role of Import and Export Coordinator within our Business and Services Department. This position will be based at our headquarters in Texcoco, State of Mexico, near Mexico City.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, contract logistics, and end users to ensure timely and cost-efficient completion of international trade operations.
  2. Monitor shipments for the import of goods ordered by our Procurement Team, preventing additional costs due to demurrage in customs' storage facilities.
  3. Facilitate customs processes for export and import of seeds and research materials, ensuring completeness of documentation, clearances, and permits.
  4. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to international businesses and operations.
  5. Report changes in regulations affecting shipment of goods.
  6. Prepare, review, and submit documents related to import and export operations.
  7. Request diplomatic franchises for import purchases exceeding $1,000 USD.
  8. Ensure imported goods are properly insured according to CIMMYT's rules and regulations.
  9. Process payment requests for customs brokers, storage facilities, freight forwarders, and couriers.
  10. Coordinate with Procurement to evaluate and select freight forwarding, courier companies, and customs clearance brokers.
  11. Monitor and follow up on all import and export transactions to ensure safe and timely transport of goods.
  12. Prepare reports on import and export transactions for tracking and monitoring purposes.
  13. Prepare payment requests for Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders, courier suppliers, and/or contract logistics suppliers.
  14. Follow up with suppliers to obtain correct invoices.
  15. Establish and maintain efficient communication channels with internal clients and partner units.
Requirements

Required qualifications, skills, and attitudes:

  1. A bachelor's degree in International Trade or Logistics, or a graduate degree with 3-5 years of experience in International Trade or Customs operations.
  2. Advanced level in MS Office, with special emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
  3. Intermediate level of English (fluent written and conversational). English will be tested, and the candidate should score a minimum of B2 on CEFR.
  4. The selected candidate must exhibit organization, critical thinking, teamwork, client orientation, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation, and conflict resolution competencies.
