Job Summary

As a key member of the Jabil Circuit team, the Manufacturing Engineering Lead will play a critical role in driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across the manufacturing function. This individual will be responsible for leading and managing a team of manufacturing engineers and machine support engineers, ensuring that all activities are aligned with the manufacturing plan and that processes are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the manufacturing engineering function, ensuring that all activities are aligned with the manufacturing plan and that processes are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the test and quality engineering leads to drive process test optimization, improvement, and execution to plan.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive continuous improvement across the manufacturing function, including the identification and implementation of best practices and the development of new technical systems.
  • Manage the development of new technical systems and drive efficiencies in current technical systems.
  • Support the engineering manager in the evaluation and equipment needs for today and future needs.
  • Support the engineering manager with labor forecasting and skills needs in line with new business requirements.
  • Undertake technology benchmarking and drive 'best in class' engineering solutions.
  • Lead and manage the manufacturing engineering function, including the development of clear performance metrics and the review of performance metrics and progress continuously.
  • Effectively prepare for and perform informal 1 to 1's and annual appraisals.
  • Identify training and development needs on an ongoing basis and provide coaching to facilitate individual excellence.
  • Drive a mindset of innovation and continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing engineering function.
  • Create and manage a succession plan for the manufacturing engineering function.
  • Drive motivation levels within the manufacturing engineering function.
  • Drive consistency of approach and performance.
  • Ensure that an effective forum for the exchange of ideas and information exists within the manufacturing engineering function.
  • Review the absence profile and employee turnover within the manufacturing engineering function.
  • Facilitate and coach the manufacturing engineers and machine technicians with regards to their roles and responsibilities within the team.
  • Build and maintain effective customer relationships.
  • Support business development through assessing the needs of potential customers in conjunction with the engineering manager and engineering leads.
  • Provide effective tools and evaluation strategies to support Jabil Circuit's quoting activity.
  • Provide expert problem-solving and customer-focused support to individual businesses.
  • Drive the manufacturing engineering function to provide existing customers with improved business solutions.
  • Proactively identify internal customer needs.
  • Drive 'internal customer focus' mindset within engineering teams.
  • Effectively cascade functional and business information and expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in areas of cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Analyze and prioritize areas for manufacturing engineering improvement, e.g., machine uptime, efficiency improvements.
  • Create a continuous improvement culture throughout the manufacturing engineering team with proactive presence online focusing on key improvement areas.
  • Create a vehicle to support multi-disciplined teams at all organizational levels to drive proactive involvement in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with engineering disciplines and manufacturing to establish service level agreements.
  • Drive key focus both the site and global objectives through Focus, Commit, Deliver, and Lean deployment.
  • Attend and lead in key JOS meetings, particularly TIC and QIC.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, including using a Windows-based operating system and related software.
  • Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil's software packages.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. Read and understand visual aids.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
