Job Summary

The Advanced Weight Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the program weight status for one or more vehicle programs from early concept approval through production launch. This individual will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team to track component and vehicle weights throughout the development life cycle.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Competitive Weight Benchmarking: Conduct thorough research and analysis to establish competitive weight targets aligned with program functional objectives and corporate GHG strategy.
  2. Weight Estimation: Develop initial top-down weight estimates for key model variants, taking into account various factors such as component weights and material usage.
  3. EPA Option Weight Budgeting: Work with Brand & Planning to establish EPA option weight budgets, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  4. Weight Scorecard Development: Create capability & weight scorecards (GVWRs, GAWRs, Payload, Towing, etc.) to track and analyze weight-related metrics.
  5. Weight Reduction Opportunities: Identify and prioritize weight reduction opportunities, coordinating approval with cross-functional teams.
  6. Bill of Materials Validation: Lead the validation of Bill of Materials (BOM) to improve the fidelity of weight status roll-ups, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  7. Component Weighing: Coordinate component weighing at suppliers and assembly plants to ensure accurate weight measurements.
  8. Prototype Vehicle Weight Validation: Validate prototype vehicle weights, addressing spring and ride height issues as needed.
  9. Weight Status Monitoring: Monitor weight status of prototype builds from VP to Job 1, validating virtual weight against actual builds.
  10. Production Weight Reporting: Hand-off weight reporting responsibilities to the production weight reporting team post-Job 1.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering: From an ABET-accredited university.
  • Relevant Automotive Experience: 5+ years of experience in automotive product development.
  • Program Development Life Cycle Knowledge: Understanding of the overall program development life cycle.
  • Microsoft Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Experience analyzing data and formulating meaningful conclusions and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Mass Properties Experience: Prior experience with mass properties or development of weight estimates in the automotive or aerospace field.
  • Vehicle Demand Energy Analysis: Knowledge of Vehicle Demand Energy analysis or fuel economy testing.
  • FCA Engineering Experience: Prior work experience with Chrysler, FCA, or Stellantis Engineering.
  • Communication and Presentation Skills: Strong communicator with ability to create and deliver presentation material to Senior Management.
  • Team Leadership and Influence: Ability to lead teams, influence, and motivate others into action.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Ability to develop project plans and work under timing constraints.
  • Self-Motivation and Adaptability: Self-motivated, works with limited supervision, able to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Analysis and Recommendation Skills: Proficient at conducting analysis and formulating recommendations.
  • Teamwork and Consensus Building: Ability to work in a team, build good working relationships, and gain consensus.
