About the Role

As an Energy Legal Counsel at Bright Inc., you will play a key role in expanding solar energy in Mexico. You will provide strategic legal guidance on regulatory compliance, contract negotiations, and financial structuring to support renewable energy projects. This role demands a detail-oriented legal expert with deep knowledge of energy laws, financing mechanisms, and stakeholder negotiations, as well as proven experience in managing complex renewable energy transactions and mitigating legal risks.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure permits are secured, filings managed, and navigate Mexico's energy framework (SENER, CNH, CFE) to maintain compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Contract Negotiations: Structure and finalize PPAs, EPC agreements, joint ventures, and reserve-based loans, ensuring enforceability and optimal risk allocation.
  • Renewable Energy Financing: Structure tax equity investments, debt financing, acquisitions, and cross-border transactions, aligning legal and financial strategies for business growth.
  • Legislative Monitoring and Advocacy: Engage with regulators, policymakers, and industry groups to shape Mexico's renewable energy policies and ensure business alignment.
  • Dispute Resolution: Implement risk mitigation strategies, defend against sanctions, and oversee arbitration and administrative litigation for energy projects.
  • Public Procurement and Bidding Strategies: Handle tenders, public-private contracts, and government negotiations to secure new energy projects and strategic partnerships.
  • Cross-Functional Team Guidance: Align legal frameworks with business strategy, optimize contracts, and ensure compliance across project development, finance, and operations.

  • Negotiation Expert: Skilled in structuring and negotiating PPAs, EPC agreements, joint ventures, and reserve-based loans, balancing risk and opportunity.
  • Cross-Border and Public Procurement Expert: Experienced in international bids, M&A transactions, and large-scale infrastructure deals, ensuring compliance with local and global regulations.
  • Risk Management Champion: Proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks in project development, energy finance, and compliance, protecting business growth.
  • Policymaker and Advocate: Engaging with regulators and industry groups to influence policies that support renewable energy expansion in Mexico.
