ROLE OVERVIEW AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

Position Summary

The selected candidate will assist the County 4-H team in providing high-quality youth development initiatives to engage both existing and new youth participants. As a Summer Assistant for 4-H, your primary duty will be to support the 4-H Educator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, and projects for youth at various 4-H gatherings.
  • Oversee the safety and well-being of children during program involvement.
  • Participate in regional or state events as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the 4-H staff to assist in summer educational programs and activities.
  • Generate content such as press releases, social media updates, and support marketing initiatives.
  • Assist with data entry for surveys when required.
  • Work with other staff members to organize programs and special events.
  • Support the Educator in reaching new audiences in accordance with Penn State University's Affirmative Action Policy.
  • Maintain accurate records, including work time sheets and travel reports, promptly.
  • Establish and manage summer documentation.
  • Compile end-of-summer reports detailing time spent, contacts made, and overall impact.
  • Gain insights into youth development careers by observing the operations of the Penn State Extension Office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideal candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational and time management abilities, exhibit the capacity to work independently, and possess skills in planning and executing educational programs and activities. Successful applicants will be team-oriented and comfortable engaging with diverse youth and adults. The ability to lift and transport equipment and educational materials is essential.

Preference will be given to applicants with backgrounds in education, agriculture, sciences, or related fields. Previous experience with the 4-H program is a plus.

This role requires the following clearances:

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
  • FBI Criminal Background Check

An active US driver's license is mandatory as the position involves operating a vehicle. A successful motor vehicle records check is also required.

Flexibility in working hours is essential.
