Job Summary

The Credit Operations team plays a critical role in ensuring a healthy financial ecosystem for businesses around the world. As a Credit Risk Specialist, you will work with merchants to evaluate their business models and financial statements, conduct credit risk assessments, and propose mitigation strategies to enable Stripe to take smart risks for our users.

Responsibilities

  • Work with merchants to evaluate their business models and financial statements, identifying potential credit risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Develop a deep understanding of risk across industries, geographies, and operating models, and use this knowledge to optimize strategies and enforce appropriate loss mitigation actions.
  • Utilize analytics to identify risk factors and trends, and report these identifiers to the wider risk team to ensure consistency in partnership.
  • Identify gaps in current systems, policies, and strategies, and recommend enhancements and process improvements.
  • Partner with global operations specialists or business process owners to run critical workflows.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience with knowledge of commercial credit underwriting, financial risk modeling, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Business-level proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to transform business and financial data into a cohesive narrative that outlines potential credit risks.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and comfort with evaluating financial statements and business models across a range of industries.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Process-oriented mindset and ability to get things done.
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a quick-moving environment.
  • Humble and proven track record for working well across teams and with external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree/diploma in Finance or Accounting.
  • Experience in payments, e-commerce, or fintech mitigating credit risk.

Work Environment

Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team, and location.
