About
As a Principal Software Engineer – Backend (m/f/d), you drive the technical evolution of Chrono24 and shape the architecture to remain scalable, robust, and adaptable in the long term. You leverage your technical expertise and systems thinking to modernize core areas of the platform, structure complex challenges, and make technical decisions with lasting impact.

You provide technical leadership to the team, foster engineering excellence, and work closely with Product Management, Frontend, UX Design, and QA to deliver high-performance, user-centric solutions. In doing so, you define clear standards, evolve best practices, and support the team in simplifying and strengthening development processes.

What You Can Expect

  • Development of modern backend applications with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Product Management, Frontend, Mobile App, UX Design, and QA to deliver holistic solutions.
  • Close collaboration within the Tech Leadership team to drive the strategic and technical evolution of the Chrono24 platform.
  • Ensuring code and product quality through code reviews, pair programming, and automated testing.
  • Supporting agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and actively participating in sprint planning and reviews.

What Sets You Apart
Must-have

  • Several years of experience as a Principal Engineer, Tech Lead, Lead Developer, or in a comparable role
  • Strong expertise in developing backend systems with Java
  • Hands-on experience in software and system architecture (e.g., Domain-Driven Design, DDD)
  • Good understanding of build and deployment processes (e.g., GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins)
  • Team-oriented and self-directed working style with the ability to provide technical leadership
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey technical concepts clearly
  • Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning and new technologies
  • Sound judgment in balancing technical excellence with pragmatic solutions

Nice-to-have

  • Experience in web or native app development and integrating them with backend systems
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting (e.g., Elastic Stack, Grafana, or comparable tools)
  • Knowledge of server-side rendering (SSR) and its integration with backend systems
