Role Overview

This is a
build-and-lead mandat
e. The Head of Risk will architect and own the firm's market and counterparty risk infrastructure, with direct visibility to the Board and Executive Committee. Unlike traditional regulatory-focused risk roles, this position is designed for a
commercially minded market risk leade
r who understands trading, can engage hands-on with portfolios, and proactively manage real-time risk in dynamic and volatile market environments.

You will be responsible for enabling profitable growth while ensuring institutional resilience

Key Responsibilities

1. Market & Trading Risk Leadership

  • Develop and execute the firm's risk framework across digital assets, derivatives, and stablecoin FX markets.
  • Monitor real-time exposure across venues, counterparties, products, and liquidity tiers.
  • Oversee leverage thresholds, liquidation risk, and stress-test scenarios (10–20% price moves, latency shocks, liquidity crunches).
  • Participate in trading strategy discussions and evaluate risk-return profiles on new opportunities

2. Collateral & Leverage Control

  • Implement real-time collateral monitoring with automated alerts: (1.5x leverage: early warning; 1.75x: amber alert; 2.0x breach – immediate collateral top-up or forced action)
  • Automate collateral movement through integration with trading systems and treasury operations

3. Counterparty & Credit Risk

  • Design DMA (Direct Market Access) models to eliminate third-party liquidation risk.
  • Standardize counterparty agreements (ISDA-style) with embedded collateral posting, conversion rules, and default procedures.
  • Manage exposure across centralized exchanges, OTC desks, and DeFi protocols

4. Risk Governance & Reporting

  • Act as Independent Risk Officer reporting directly to the Board.
  • Chair the formal Risk Committee and provide daily/weekly updates on overall risk posture.
  • Integrate quantitative risk models (VaR, historical simulation, Monte Carlo).
  • Ensure alignment with institutional investor expectations, not purely regulatory compliance

5. Operational & Middle Office Controls

  • Oversee daily PnL reconciliation, settlement controls, valuation verification, and funding attribution.
  • Implement 24-hour reconciliation SLAs across all venues.
  • Strengthen trading workflows to improve speed, accuracy, and resiliency

6. Crisis Management & Stress Testing

  • Create and execute liquidation playbooks and escalation protocols.
  • Lead monthly liquidation drills and quarterly external audits of risk systems.
  • Implement contingency models for "Black Swan Events"

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of exper
    ience in market risk, trading risk, or derivatives risk management.
  • Proven track record building risk infrastructure from scratch within trading firms, hedge funds, exchanges, or high-frequency environments.
  • Strong understanding of FX, derivatives, liquidity management, and leverage optimization.
  • Hands-on experience participating in trading or working closely with trading desks.
  • Advanced market modeling skills: VaR, margin optimization, exposure tracking.
  • English fluency and ability to interface with global stakeholders

Preferred

  • Exposure to crypto or digital ass
    et markets, including CEX, OTC, or DeFi risk.
  • Experience with Fireblocks, Talos, Haruko, Tres, or similar platforms.
  • FRM, CFA, or quantitative finance background.
  • Prior engagement with regulators or institutional investors is a plus.
