We are a custom software development company with over 19 years in the market, partnering with major clients across the U.S., Europe, and Canada. We're hiring a Sr Java SDET to join our remote global team.

The Senior Java SDET will be responsible for defining the architecture and building robust, scalable, and maintainable test automation frameworks using Core Java. This role requires a strong shift-left mindset, the ability to question requirements, assess testability early in the design phase, and author the right set of automated test cases based on requirements and system design.

This individual will serve as a technical lead for automation, coaching junior engineers and setting best practices for software quality and CI/CD.

The Senior Java SDET will be responsible for defining the architecture and building robust, scalable, and maintainable test automation frameworks using Core Java. This role requires a strong shift-left mindset, the ability to question requirements, assess testability early in the design phase, and author the right set of automated test cases based on requirements and system design.

Key Responsibilities
Framework Architecture & Automation
  • Design, develop, and implement scalable and reusable test automation frameworks from scratch using Core Java (JUnit, TestNG, Maven/Gradle).
  • Lead automation strategy across different test layers: unit, integration, end-to-end, and regression.
  • Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
Test Design & Shift-Left Quality
  • Actively participate in requirements and design discussions, evaluating whether features are testable and identifying risks early.
  • Ask the right questions to clarify requirements and ensure quality expectations are well defined.
  • Translate requirements and designs into well-structured, meaningful automated test cases.
  • Determine what should and should not be automated, ensuring automation adds real value.
  • Break down requirements into effective test scenarios and select the appropriate test types.
  • Author test cases proactively based on design and requirements, not only from pre-written test cases.
Coding & Execution
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable Java-based automation code.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests for APIs (REST/SOAP) and UIs using Selenium.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools (when applicable) to optimize test creation, coverage, and maintenance, while ensuring test quality and relevance.
  • Collaborate closely with developers to ensure quality throughout the SDLC.
Required Qualifications (Must Have)
  • Strong expertise in Core Java (Java 8/11/17+), including OOP, design patterns, and automation best practices.
  • Solid experience in test automation with a strong focus on framework design.
  • Hands-on experience with Selenium for UI automation.

  • Analyze requirements and designs
  • Ask critical questions
  • Define and author the right automated test cases
  • Strong shift-left mindset, participating early in the SDLC to influence quality.
  • Experience deciding what test cases should be automated and how to structure them effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and a leadership-oriented mindset.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Playwright.
  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Exposure to modern testing approaches, tools, or AI-assisted automation techniques.
