Global Buyer Expert

This person reports to the Vice President Procurement focusing on our Packaging inks and Narrow Web business in NA which consists of our Solvent, Water and UV Ink business and is part of the Global Procurement Team for the Flint Group Print Supply Platform. Flint Group manufactures Packaging inks our plants around North America.

EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES NEEDED:

We are looking for a candidate with experience in buying raw materials in the chemical industry.

Requires an undergraduate degree in relevant field of study purchasing, supply chain and materials management in an industrial setting. Would be good to have a good understanding of chemical processes in manufacturing operations. Would be good to have experience in purchasing chemicals for the manufacturing process. Would be good to have knowledge with legal aspects of purchasing, inventory control methods, cost/price analysis and transportation modes and rates. Wold help to be versed in the fundamentals of economics and be constantly aware of industry wide supply and demand movement for those commodities for which he is assigned. Must be creative in developing savings opportunities and in selecting new sources. Must exercise sound judgment relating to all procurement functions. Must be able to project the image of the company in such a manner that long term relationships beneficial to the company will be established.

Requires a high degree of problem solving ability. Involvement with major national and international sources requires that both short and long term supply commitments and problems be handled with extreme care and caution for the overall corporate benefit. This position requires an individual who has the ability to perform under stress conditions for the continuance of production at the lowest total cost. The ability to recognize problems at suppliers prior to general market knowledge is also required in order to affect plans for the continued supply to the company.

Summary Job Description/Key Job Responsibilities/Decision-Making Responsibility:

Negotiate and administer Corporate-wide purchasing agreements of assigned raw materials at the lowest possible long term costs, thus allowing maximization of profits to those divisions for which the materials are procured. Plan and execute sound, logical and achievable procurement strategies. These strategies must be in alignment with the objectives of the Product Development Labs (PDL). Resolve and permanently solve recurring supplier caused quality and delivery problems. Develop and maintain reliable and cost competitive sources of supply.

Will focus on the raw materials required for production in our Packaging inks and Narrow Web business in NA.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·   For a specific category / vendors or material groups, responsible for supplier selection, price and contract negotiations, shipping and payment terms.

·   Responsible to manage the contract to assure conformance to all requirements.

· Participate in discussions with PDL so as to be aware of objectives, strategies and tactics of the technical community.

·   Conduct/participate in make or buy decisions.

·   Survey supplier facilities and capabilities.

·   Perform cost/price analyses to establish reasonableness of proposal costs and prices.

·   Develop and implement short and long term procurement strategies to assure adequate quantities of suitable materials to the using divisions at the time and place needed to meet actual requirements at the lowest total costs.

·   Analyze and evaluate quotations submitted directly or in response to bid requests to assure that quality, capability and costs are satisfactory.

·   Expedite solution of problems that arise in relation to quality, delivery and pricing.

·   Negotiate settlements with suppliers any problems that could result in financial losses to the company.

·   Aggressively seek and recommend cost savings possibilities based upon new sources, substitutions, improved systems or new items.

·   Maintain market intelligence and report changes in pricing levels and potential problem areas or conditions which could adversely affect the company's procurement position. Also recommend and direct corrective actions.

·   Establish accurate standard costs for production materials.

·   Some travel required to main Flint Group plants in US – less than 25% of time.
