What's the role?

Etsy is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the team that is improving the shopping experience for buyers on Etsy Web. You'll help deliver a re-envisioned suite of experiences that enable millions of buyers to easily evaluate the unique products crafted by our sellers and make informed purchase decisions.

You'll do this by helping deliver robust, scalable, full-stack products with updates grounded in experiments that will be A/B tested live on Your team will test new ideas, respond to buyer research, and ship delightful solutions that reduce friction in understanding and purchasing items which are made to order.

Staying at the forefront of technology, you'll bring ideas that enable your team to rapidly iterate while maintaining a high bar for quality.

This is a full-time position reporting to a Director of Engineering within the Adaptive Inventory team, which focuses on high impact improvements for connecting buyers to items that meet their shopping mission and supports sellers in meeting buyer expectations. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

This role requires your presence in Etsy's Mexico City Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Lead a team of 5 to 8 fullstack software engineers within the context of product engineering, establishing effective process that increases collaboration across disciplines. At Etsy, engineering managers have a very large role in orchestrating and coaching engineers to achieve results together.

• Partner cross-functionally with product management, design, user-research, and analytics to deliver innovative moments focussed on our listing screen and related pre-purchase surfaces.

• Work with other leaders within engineering to develop and evolve engineering processes and best practices

• Establish strong cross-functional relationships with platform, data, and infrastructure teams.

• Prioritize, scope, plan, develop, and deliver projects at various completion stages or definitions when started.  Planning and delivery of your team's roadmap

• Serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate for the engineers on your team.

• Participate in the end-to-end recruiting process, hiring, and onboarding exceptional engineering talent

• Foster a culture of learning, collaboration and thoughtful delivery on your teams

Here's a glimpse of the type of problems you'll help solve:

• Launch improvements to the listing screen so that buyers can more easily evaluate the options and personalization that sellers offer and understand the impact of their choices on price and availability

• Integrate machine learning models to guide buyers through the process of visualizing and selecting their personalization choices

• Develop features that streamline the communication between buyers and sellers during the purchase evaluation process, enabling both parties to have confidence in the purchase information.

Must have skills:

• 3+ years of people management experience

• Strong Engineering full-stack hands-on experience, including ownership of user facing experiences that support high volume and require high reliability within a large code base.

• Experience working in a product engineering context (collaborating directly with non-engineering teams to build cohesive end-to-end systems) and using A/B testing to deploy product updates.

• Experience coaching and mentoring engineers through significant career achievements.

• Experience with one or more modern web JavaScript frameworks such as React, Redux, Preact, Angular, Vue,  or similar or PHP in a scaled production environment

• Experience with one or more cloud platforms like GDP, AWS, or Azure 

• Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. 

Nice to have skills

• Experience using PHP, MySQL in scaled production environments

• Experience developing shared front-end libraries used across web and native mobile applications

• Experience with one or more containerization / orchestration technologies like Docker / Kubernetes
